Man drags woman out of gay club and rapes her in his SUV

    OMAHA, Neb. --

An Omaha woman said she was raped outside a downtown bar and now she wants other women to know what she went through so it doesn’t happen to them. The 20-year-old woman, who wants to remain anonymous, said the alleged rape happened outside the Run Club near 18th and Leavenworth streets early Sunday morning. She said she danced with a man she didn’t know.“Before I knew it, this guy was pulling me by the wrist out of the club and no one thought anything of it. When you’re at the club, people disappear. It’s not a big deal so nobody noticed,” she said. The woman said the man forced her into an SUV.“I kept telling him no and tried to push him off, but it wasn’t working, so I finally gave up,” she said. "I’m not going to fight it too bad because I don’t know what he’s capable of and I don’t want to be hurt worse than I have to be.”She said after a few minutes that part of the ordeal was over.“I walked about 20 feet away from his vehicle and collapsed on the ground and started crying because I didn’t know what else to do. I was so scared, I couldn’t do anything other than that,” she said. The alleged rape victim said the man drove away and her friends finally found her, took her to the hospital and called the police to file a report. Now she has a warning for other women.“Watch your back. Don’t trust anyone. You never know what people are capable of. Stick to the people you know are going to be good to you and try to avoid those you have bad feelings about. Just be careful. That’s all you can do,” she said.

Video at link. Anyone else skeeved by her dirty sleeves and the fact that she laughed during the interview? Nervous laughter, maybe? I hope they catch the guy.

BULLSHIT. Fight. Fight like your life depends on it (because often, it does). He should have never been able to get her into that car to begin with. Women can do more than simply being careful.

I WANT to disagree with you, but i can't.
Too often women SAY they want equal rights, but we don't.
    Let me explain.
If we really wanted equal rights, there'd be no outrage when a man hits a woman. Women would not expect to be treated to dinner.
Don't get me wrong, I am certainly thankfully to the women of the past who DID fight for women's rights, but I'd much rather be a stay at home gal who takes care of the house while my man works.

Heh. Speak for yourself. My man is going to be playing daddy daycare when I go back to work after having the baby, and I'm pleased as punch about not having to do it myself.

What women in the past fought for is not for every woman to work, but for every woman to have the choice. More power to a woman who chooses to stay home, as far as I'm concerned, but the fact that she isn't pigeon-holed into it against her will is the success of the feminist movement.

That said, this goes even beyond all that, in my opinion. Since our creation, women have been preyed upon in this respect. At what point do we stop expecting the best out of people, or expecting to be protected? At what point do we realize that, although it's not right, we should expect to have to fight for our safety?

Rape and domestic violence will plague us for as long as we allow it. Which is more important - that our daughters be delicate and feminine, or that they be able to protect themselves? No matter how hard we try to wish it away, the reality is, we are picked off due to our weaker status, and that will continue to be the case until we try to fill in the gap.

Of course we want equal rights. We shouldn't have to be smacked around to be treated for dinner and have doors opened for us.

Its okay to want to be a stay at home woman but if your husband ever left you wouldn't you want the right to seek employment so that you could continue to live in your house and take care of yourself?

Don't you want the right to vote so that you have a voice in the issues that matter to you?

Don't you want the right to dress the way that you want, marry who who you want, and say what you want without the threat of being stoned in the street? Because that shit still happens in certain parts of the world.

Women's rights go way beyond being a stay at home mom or housewife.

Really?? If you screamed out bloody murder because some stranger was trying to pull you out of the club by the wrist, I'm sure somebody would have noticed and said or tried to do something...or maybe that's just me...I know that I would scream my head off or did anything to get somebody's attention to get help or something...not just give up...

I know, right? That crossed by mind as well. Maybe, initially, she didn't think she had any reason to be concerned... OR... maybe this story has been embellished a bit. The very fact that she felt the need to explain away the lack of attention this scene got in the club struck me as suspicious.

That's exactly what I thought...like did you try to get anybody's attention...or was everybody soooo involved in what they were doing that they don't notice when somebody is trying to NOT go with somebody??

You would think that she might have tried to grab onto a couple people if she really didn't want to go with him. Or you are right about the first part and was like "this is fun, I need some fresh air"...? Idk. It just seems a little odd to me...Don't most clubs have security or bouncers or something??

I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks it a lil funny that nobody noticed them leaving the club in the described fashion... Either her hinky meter wasn't working when he grabbed her by the wrist, or something. I don't know, I wasn't in the club that night, or in the SUV... What I do know, is if somebody I didn't know tried to pull me out of a club, I'd fight, grab on to ppl to get attention and as an anchor, fight and scream bloody murder over the music,... He would not have gotten me outside in that manner. However, had he not set off Hinky meters, I might have stepped outside w him for smoke if it was a non smoking establishment, or fallen for some other innocent seeming tactic.

She is right, in that women have to be careful, hell everybody has to be careful, but being careful isn't everything...

My daughter is delicate and feminine, she's 2 1/2, 23 lbs (that's about the average weight of a 1 yr old) and is estimated to be about 5'1 and 110 lbs full grown. That's why, soon as she's old enough to be enrolled in some sort of fighting class, she will be... My tiny lil princess is going to learn to kick ass and protect herself, because she's not going to have the size and strength to do so, so she's gonna at least have the know-how if I have any say about it
This planet has - or rather had - a problem, which was this: most of the people living on it were unhappy for pretty much of the time. Many solutions were suggested for this problem, but most of these were largely concerned with the movement of small green pieces of paper, which was odd because on the whole it wasn't the small green pieces of paper that were unhappy.
    -Douglas Adams

That's fantastic to hear, and I'd recommend the same even if she was estimated to be 6'2" and 200lbs (which is, actually, what I was estimated to be). I was targeted most when I was a teenager, and I was 5'11" and 185 lbs of basketball-playing, track-sprinting muscle. AND I dressed like a hoodlum, and even then, I was still targeted.

If you have the option in your area, I would highly recommend a MMA (or Mixed Martial Arts) gym. For those who don't know, this is what the guys in the UFC use - typically, a mixture of the most effective striking and grappling techniques. It's been developed because, really, no single style gives you the ability to defend yourself both standing up and on the ground in a practical way. And, in the fights I've seen and been in, you really do require both.

    It's also super cool.

This happened after hours, so theoretically there would not be too many other people in the bar....somebody should have noticed her being dragged out, and done something....

Also she is 20 years old.....No wonder she wants to remain anonymous.....She and the bar could BOTH be in trouble.....

Where'd it say anything about this happening after hours? This could have been 1am, which is primetime for a dance club. Also, the club may have been all-ages, bar w/ID. Seattle has lots of clubs like that.

The TV announcer before the interview said "after hours" in the lead in.

But that still doesn't answer why a 20 year old is in the bar in the first place.....
