The state Department of Correctional Services has suspended a corrections officer who was arrested on federal child pornography charges at his Gowanda home last week.

Authorities confirmed Thursday that the officer — Shawn R. Pound, 39— had been assigned to guard prisoners in a unit housing sex offenders.

Both Pound and his 19-year-old stepson, Kenneth Fisher, were arrested March 25 at their home on Route 62 in Gowanda. The arrests followed an investigation by agents from U. S. Immigration & Customs Enforcement.

Agents found graphic and disturbing child porn images on three computers they seized from the home during a court-authorized search March 9, Assistant U. S. Attorney Aaron J. Mango said.

“When the agents went to the home, as Pound’s children were getting ready to go to school, a search was being run on the family computer in the kitchen, using the keyword ‘rape,’ ” Mango told a judge during a detention hearing.

Pound and Fisher are both being held without bail while awaiting trial, under orders of U. S. Magistrate Judge H. Kenneth Schroeder Jr. They face felony charges of possessing child pornography.

Since the arrest, Pound has been suspended from his job at the state’s Gowanda Correctional Facility, Mango told the judge.

Pound has also served as a volunteer with the Boy Scouts, Mango said at the hearing. He did not provide details on the Scout troop with which Pound was affiliated.

Both Pound and his stepson have pleaded not guilty, but they acknowledged in interviews that they have watched child porn on their computers, ICE Special Agent Adam J. Ouzer said in an arrest affidavit.

About 5,100 images of child porn were found on two family computers used by Pound, and six child porn videos were found on Fisher’s laptop, Mango said.

In addition to his stepson, Pound has four children of his own, including a 15-year-old son who currently faces charges of raping a 9-year-old girl from his neighborhood, the prosecutor told Schroeder.

You'd think with all the guarding he did of sex offenders he would have been smarter.
