PITTSBURG — A naked man police said was high on a hallucinogenic drug and driving a stolen Tri Delta Transit minivan, crashed into a Pittsburg house Friday afternoon.
Neither the driver, identified as 22-year-old Terry Malone Jr., nor the occupants of the home were injured, although the house had major structural damage, Pittsburg police Lt. Brian Addington said.
The collision took place about 5:30 p.m. at the intersection of Herb White Way and Marina Boulevard.
The van had stopped in the 900 block of West 9th Street in Antioch about 5:15 p.m. to drop off a passenger, Antioch police Lt. Scott Willerford said. That's when Malone, a San Francisco resident, jumped in through the sliding door.
"He was not naked when he stole the van," Willerford said.
The driver argued with him and tried to pull him out. Instead, the suspect got the keys to the van and drove away, leaving the driver behind.
Pittsburg officers detained him at the crash site and Antioch police arrested the driver on suspicion of carjacking. He was taken to a hospital, where it was determined that he had ingested a hallucinogenic drug, Willerford said.
The suspect admitted only to smoking marijuana, he said.
A city building inspector was called to evaluate the house.
"The people who live there probably will not be able to stay there tonight," Addington said.
If they are forced to evacuate, the American Red Cross will be called to
provide temporary shelter.
