Possible Human Remains Found Off Alley Rest Stop

    W BROWARD
Frequented on the weekends by families who love to fish and boaters, the recreation and rest stop areas along Alligator Alley are quite popular.

On Wednesday, however, divers with the Broward Sheriff's Office found more than just bass and Florida gar in the waters of a rest stop located at Mile Marker 31. In the late morning hours they discovered two submerged cars and a minivan.
    [...]
BSO said initial reports indicate that human remains from possibly more than one person were found inside the van. The remains will be taken to the county Medical Examiner's Office for further investigation.

I was just thinking... what if my friend Terrill Girard is in one of these vehicles? idk why she would be, but what if?
I'm no expert, but the cars don't look like they've been in the water for 8 years.

I am searching my records. So far I have not come up with any missing groups. Not since the van full of teens that were found in Coral Springs. (Drawing a blank on the male who was driving.)

MILE MARKER 31, ALLIGATOR ALLEY -- Human remains were discovered in a van pulled from a canal Wednesday near Alligator Alley, the Broward Sheriff's Office said.

The minivan was discovered in a canal near a rest area at mile marker 31. A BSO dive team was at the boat ramp during a routine dive operation. Police said the dive team pulled out two cars they found submerged in the canal before discovering a minivan.

BSO said when the van was pulled from the water, investigators discovered human remains, possibly belonging to more than one person, inside the vehicle.

Homicide and crime scene investigators and a dive team from BSO were at the scene.

Now that I know this is happening so close to me, in more ways than one, I'll be going crazy till they get IDs on these people.

Anyone else sort of creeped out by the "possibly more than one person" bit? It's clear that they can't say for sure.

Creeped out? No, I read the Dreaming Demon.

But think about it. We have LOTS of critters down here. Bugs, crabs, fish, etc that just love to eat what they view as food.
Depending on how long these have been in the water, the bones would be all jumbled up.

True, it does depend on how long they've been there.. Still, I suppose one benefit is that the remains would have to be of consistent size for it not to easily rule into more than one, which may mean that kids were not involved.

Hmmm, the black car looks like it's a Honda because of the trunk area. It looks like and H instead of the Chevy sign. Could it be that they crashed into each other then sank to the bottom?

says TWO cars and the van...they didnt say anything about possible remains in the cars, just the van....hmmm..very strange...i'm thinking the cars were stolen vehicles dumped by whoever stole them...we have an old quarry here that theives always dump stolen cars into so thats a good possibilty about what happened to the cars...as for the van...could be foul play, and could also be a tragic accident...i cant wait to hear updates on this!

Oh, sure. Forgot to mention that.
When cars get stolen here, they sometimes get found in a canal.
I'd say a good 50% of them. The others get shipped out of the country illegally somehow.

...inside a Dodge Caravan that was covered in algae. The amount of algae suggested the car had been under water for quite some time.
...said there are reports that the registration sticker on the van is from 1999.
I didnt find anything about the person or persons inside the van though.

Top car seems to not have near the same amount of algae.

The minivan was discovered in a canal near a rest area at mile marker 31. A BSO dive team was at the boat ramp during a routine training operation. Police said the dive team pulled out two cars they found submerged in the canal before discovering a green Dodge minivan.

BSO said when the van was pulled from the water on its side, human bones fell from the window. Investigators said they believe the human remains might be those of more than one person.

Homicide and crime scene investigators and a dive team from BSO are investigating. Police said they do not know how the van ended up in the canal or any other details.

The license plate on the van said 1999, meaning that the van might have been in the canal for 10 or 11 years.

I think i figured it out.

    Nelta, Juanita and Johanna Jacques.
That could easily be the way they went to get back home to Tampa. It's the way I went last time I drove there.

    The cars? Still searching.

Looks as though I am right.
Divers with a South Florida county sheriff’s office have pulled up an algae-covered minivan from a canal along Alligator Alley with human bones inside.

The Broward County Sheriff’s Office divers were on a training mission when they found the van in 18 feet of water near a rest area. The remains are believed to belong to at least one person.

Valbrun Chevalier told the South Florida Sun Sentinel that Tampa police investigators informed his family the van was registered to his sister, who has been missing for nearly 11 years.

Twenty-seven-year-old Nelta Jacques disappeared in 1999 as she drove from Fort Lauderdale with her two daughters, ages 7 and 5, to their Tampa home. The girls are also missing.

The sheriff’s office would not confirm whether the car belongs to Jacques.

Remains found in Florida canal may solve 1999 disappearance (CNN) -- For nearly 11 years, the family of Nelta Jacques has awaited word on her fate, as well as that of her two daughters, ages 5 and 7.

The three disappeared on a rain-soaked night in June 1999 as they were traveling from Jacques' father's home in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, to their home in Tampa, a drive of about 260 miles.

But a grisly discovery Wednesday in a Florida canal -- a submerged minivan with human remains inside -- might provide some long-sought answers.

"It's hard. It's just some closure right now," Valbrun Chevalier, Jacques' brother, said Thursday.

The algae-covered minivan was found Wednesday morning during a Broward County Sheriff's Office training exercise at the canal, located in a wildlife management area along I-75, authorities said in a news release.
    [...]
He said he did not know whether the remains of all three had been found, but relatives were providing authorities with DNA samples Thursday.

Jacques was 27 when she was last seen June 2, 1999. She had worked at a Wal-Mart and at toll plazas in Florida, along with other odd jobs, Chevalier said.
    [...]
She had just returned from a visit with relatives in Haiti, and had picked up her daughters -- Johanna St. Louis, 7, and Juanita Jacques, 5, from her father's home. She left for Tampa, driving her 1996 green Dodge Caravan minivan, about 11:30 p.m. in the rain, despite family members' pleas not to, Chevalier said. She never arrived.
    [...]
"She was about eight months pregnant," Dinorah Perry told the South Florida Sun-Sentinel in a story published Thursday. Perry runs Missing Children International Ministries in Pembroke Pines, Florida, and campaigned for greater police efforts in the search for Jacques. "Her father begged her not to drive that car alone. She said, 'Daddy, I'm grown.' "
    [...]
While Chevalier said he is brought to tears thinking of his relatives' last desperate moments in the minivan, he hopes the police investigation turns up no foul play.

"I hope that's what happened, they got into an accident," he said.

She was about eight months pregnant
so even without the added circumstances of her trying to get her daughters to safety she probably couldnt get out herself if she tried
