MTV Reality star David "Puck" Rainey is being charged with drunk driving in connection with a single car crash in which he was seriously injured. His 8 year old son was also hurt in the accident.
The former "Real World" star was drunk Saturday night when he veered off Route 79 in San Diego and rolled down an embankment, says Highway Patrol Officer Brian Pennings.
Rainey was trapped inside the car, which landed on its roof, but his son managed to escape the wreckage and get help.
He and his son were flown to University of California, San Diego Medical Center, where Rainey is being treated for serious injuries, including a broken neck.
Rainey told authorities he swerved to avoid hitting a deer while he and his son were on a fishing trip.
But, CHP officials say he was drunk.
Rainey's son suffered internal injuries in the crash, including a damaged liver.
He has been released from the hospital.
Rainey's manager says the son was released to the boy's mother, Rainey's wife.
Pennings says Rainey will be charged with driving under the influence, child endangerment and driving without a license.
In 1994, Rainey, a bicycle messenger, appeared on The Real World: San Francisco.
He feuded with several house-mates, especially Pedro Zamora, an AIDS educator who died of AIDS in November of that year at age 22.
Because of his contentious relationship with the rest of the cast, he is evicted from the house.
