A babysitter safely evacuated two children
from a burning apartment in northwest Gainesville early Sunday, firefighters reported.
Two children, a 3-year-old and an 11-month-old
, and their babysitter were at the home at the time. But the sitter was able to get the two children out of the residence before firefighters arrived.
Both were treated on the scene for smoke inhalation and released.
Firefighters had the blaze extinguished within 10 minutes, according to Davis.
Damage at the home was "extensive," firefighters reported.
The blaze was described as a cooking fire, according to initial reports.
