Guess why Eddie Hamilton and Lashonda Caldera were arrested

Fresno police Tuesday booked Eddie Hamilton, 23, on suspicion of murder and child abuse in the death of his 3-month-old son.

The boy's mother, Lashonda Caldera, 25, was booked on suspicion of child abuse in the death of the child, Elijah Hamilton.

Friday, emergency medical personnel went to the Apple Creek apartment complex at 4781 N. Polk Ave. in northwest Fresno to answer a call for a nonbreathing infant.

The boy was taken to Community Regional Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead, Lt. Shannon Galvan said.

Detectives investigating the boy's death later determined that the cause of death was fatal child abuse syndrome, Galvan said.

The boy suffered blunt force trauma on the day of his death.

Hamilton is being held without bail in the Fresno County Jail. Caldera is held on a $25,000 bond.

I'm wondering why, if she had the mental capacity of an 8 year-old, her family didn't make sure she was on some type of contraceptive. And living on her own?? Makes me think that the whole 8 year-old mentality is a bit of an exaggeration.

My guess is that no one wanted the responsibility. The family has to take some of the blame here.

I have a 39 yr old sister who has the mental capacity of a 12 year old. NO WAY can she live on her own so exaggeration is by the family is beyond stretching the truth.

Getting a "mentally challenged" person on birth control is very hard... at least in the state where my sister lives. It dates back to the days of forced sterilization. So I can't fault the family there. I DO FAULT the family for not taking care that she was not in an intentional situation to get pregnant.

If she was so challenged she should have been in their home or a group home. Reliance on the system is the lamest excuse.

Update: Child abuse charges against Lashonda Caldera, the mother of a little boy who died recently in Fresno have been dropped.
The DA's office says there was not enough evidence to file charges against Lashonda Caldera. However the child's father Eddie Hamilton has been charged with murder and assault.

Man, that's an insult. I work with mentally changelled people...I know some women who have mental capacity of an 8-year old, got their tubes tied because their parents do not want them to have children. They knew they couldn't take care of children. They can't take care of themseleves. They're not 100 percent ready to be out in real world.

The judge has ruled that he must stand trial on a murder charge.

The attorney is still trying to push blame towards the mother, insisting that she could possibly have been responsible for Elijah's death.

The blunt force trauma that was mentioned back in April was to his abdomen. The reason for it? Eddie admitted to punching his son in the stomach because little Elijah would not stop whining while Eddie was trying to change his diaper.

Absolutely. If I had a daughter with the 'mental capacity of an 8yr old' there is abso-fucking-lutely NO WAY I would let her start a sexual 'relationship'. Someone with a mental capacity like that would not undersand what was happening, and would not be capable of looking after herself, never mind any resulting infant!!! If its true that she is mentally 8yrs old, her family need to be charged with child neglect, because they let her down badly and failed to protect her.
