San Antonio police Wednesday night arrested a man suspected of breaking a 4-year-old boy's leg.
Cipriano Niera, 21, is being held in Bexar County Jail on one count of injury to a child with intent. A judge set bail at $125,000.
An arrest warrant affidavit states Niera was alone with the 4-year-old and his younger brother, 2, on Tuesday evening while their mother was at work. At 9:30 p.m., he reportedly called the children's mother and said the boy had hurt himself and possibly had a broken leg.
She left work and rushed home, and called 911 when she realized her son was in serious pain, the affidavit states. Niera reportedly fled the scene with the younger boy and drove to a friend's home, police said.
While paramedics treated the boy, he stated that Niera hit and choked him, the affidavit states. He was hospitalized, and doctors determined he had “obvious injury to the right mid-femur” and other injuries in various stages of healing, according to police.
Officers then drove to Niera's friend's home, where they found the younger boy, who was covered in bruises. Niera had already left his friend's home, police said, but was arrested without incident Wednesday night.
