Michael Alfinez Arrested; Parents Say It's Because of Bad Blood with a Cop

FL - Michael Alfinez, 18, was arrested and charged with exploiting his 85-year-old grandmother on a videotape using guns and profanity.

"A mask was placed over her head and she was made to handle firearms and make outrageous statements against law enforcement," says PBSO spokesman Paul Miller.

The victim suffered from a medical condition and during the video was disoriented at times, had a blank stare, and paused for instructions.

The tape was confiscated during a traffic stop in early January.

Authorities say it goes on to show Alfinez and other individuals shooting rounds from a car near 20 mile bend.

"What they were doing is that they were shooting a video similar to a previous video done called Gangstas and Thugs," says Miller.

Michael's parents couldn't disagree more with the charges.

"I'm devastated because he's never been arrested before," says his mother, Michelle Alfinez.

According to the parents, they had no idea of the video, were shown only a few seconds of it by deputies and said it was simply a joke.

"It's lies," says Raymond Alfinez. "That's his grandmother, he doesn't abuse her he loves her," says Michelle.

The couple added the charges stem from bad blood with the arresting officer's brother who knew Michael. Alfinez faces three charges of discharging a firearm, abuse of the elderly, and improper exploitation of a weapon.

The grandma was directed to say things like, "Fuck you if you don't like it," "Palm Beach County Bitch," and "you motherfucker," while holding what appears to be a chrome semi-automatic pistol.

When asked later about the incident, the woman was unable to recall that she had a gun in her hand and stated that she did not know what a video was. When shown the video of herself, she appeared shocked and said, "They are making a criminal out of me." The woman's primary care physician informed police that she does not have the capacity to consent.

As for grandson Mikey, he said he got the idea from a Gangstas and Thugs video and "knew that my grandma could be like that too or better," even though he admits she would not want to be remembered that way.

May 8 - Alfinez's grandmother says in an affidavit that she consented to the taping and doesn't want him prosecuted.

Despite that, the judge rejected Alfinez's request to lower his bond from $22,000 to $6,000.

"I do not want to prosecute," Marie Huertas wrote in the affidavit. "I want my only grandson out of jail and home with me and the rest of the family. I miss him and love him very much."

While Alfinez's parents and sisters were in court, his grandmother was absent.

Regardless, somebody came up with the money. The Palm Beach Co. Sheriff's Office booking blotter indicates Alfinez was released from custody May 8.
