Syracuse, NY - A Syracuse man was arraigned in Syracuse City Court this morning on animal cruelty charges in connection with the torture of a cat at his home last week.
A friend of the man filmed the incident which was later posted on YouTube, authorities said.
Erik Estrada, 18, of 1125 Westcott St., is charged with cruelty to animals and permitting the act of cruelty, both misdemeanors.
Court papers accuse Estrada of tormenting the tiger cat named Jasmine with a blow dryer while the cat's front feet were tied together.
He is accused of chasing the incapacitated cat off a chair and around the room with the blow dryer. A 16-year-old co-defendant videotaped Estrada's actions and pushed the cat toward Estrada with his foot when it tried to escape, according to court papers.
Estrada then held the nozzle of the blow dryer to the cat's anal area for several seconds. He is accused of then using an electrical razor to shave the cat's right flank and the top of the animal's head.
