The woman who gave birth to a baby in a bathroom at the Roederer Correctional Complex on Sunday suffocated the child by shoving toilet paper into her mouth, then put the baby into a trash can, according to a police citation.

Ashley N. Cox, 20, of Corbin, was visiting an inmate at the LaGrange men's prison when she delivered the baby in a bathroom at about 11 a.m.
After placing her daughter in the trash, Cox covered the baby with paper, the citation states.
When prison personnel came into the bathroom and saw blood, Cox "failed to report" that she had delivered a baby, the citation says.
Instead, an ambulance was called to the prison to respond to a reported miscarriage, said Trooper Michael Webb of the state police.
At the hospital, Cox was examined, and it was determined that she had delivered a full-term infant, Webb said.
After that, a search was conducted at the prison, and the baby's body was found in the trash at 4:29 p.m., he said.
Cox worked at a Corbin daycare center and has a 2-year-old daughter, Webb said. Cox, who has also gone by the name Ashley Jones, is going through a divorce, he said. Police do not know who the infant's father is, but Webb said it is not the inmate Cox was visiting.
He said officers investigating the case have been told by Cox's friends and family that they did not know she was pregnant.
Cox is charged with murder and concealing the birth of an infant.
She is being held in the Oldham County Jail on $2.5 million bond and is scheduled to be arraigned in Oldham District Court on Wednesday.
