Well, maybe not fluffy.
ROWAN COUNTY -- An arrest has been made two years after a fire at Dan Nichols Park claimed the lives of 43 animals.
Investigators determined it was intentionally set just weeks after the fire. Thanks to a CrimeStoppers tip, Rockwell teen Jerry Lane Harwood is in jail, charged with the crime.
“We just couldn’t believe it,” said Bob Pendergrass, nature center supervisor. “It seemed like why would anyone choose to do anything like this intentionally?”
When he learned about the arrest, Pendergrass said it was a relief “knowing that person that is responsible is not still out there. And wondering if somebody does something like this, what’s next. Will they come back?”
