Greenville Woman Accused Of Shaking Child To DeathGREENVILLE, S.C. --

A Greenville woman was charged with homicide by child abuse on Monday after a child in her care died.

Police said that investigators were called to Greenville Memorial Hospital on Monday morning. They said a doctor told them that a 2-year-old unconscious girl was brought to the emergency room at about 11:15 a.m. The doctor told investigators that the child was receiving treatment for severe injuries consistent with shaken baby syndrome.

The toddler died at about 9:29 p.m., police said.

Investigators said they determined that the child's cousin, 51-year-old Judy Greer, was caring for the girl just before she was brought to the hospital. They said that Greer told them she was trying to rock the child to sleep and shook the child. She said that the child suddenly became quiet and still.

Greer is being held at the Greenville County Detention Center.

The ones that shake someone else's child to death really get to me because they could have just said "Sorry, I can't watch the baby"


On an aside, I suspect that we will be learning pretty quickly that Cousin Judy is "slow".
