In court documents, Obptande cited worries that Runyon was planning to use the money to pay off his truck and build a new home.
Personally, I see nothing wrong with that. Both benefit the child. It's not like he's sticking it up his nose, taking vacations without the kid, and buying himself new clothes. Yes, dad gets some benefit from the new house and the paid-off truck, but he is also the one shouldering ALL the responsibilities. But the child has a decent place to live and a dependable ride. I bet mammy dearest would be doing the same if she had the control. This is like bitching because dad bought steak instead of hot dogs for supper when both are affordable in the budget.

Alas Dakota, I think you're giving this egg donar wayyy too much credit. No chance in hell would that money be going towards her daughter if she was in charge of the money. She already showed how much she cares about her children. Her need to get banged outweights the safety of her children.

I gave HER no credit. I was discrediting her argument. The statement I quoted and have an issue with was made by her. She was the one bitching about how he may or may not spend the money. I give her credit for nothing... just like the judge.

Good news about Amanda. She's recovering well, and now judged able to go to Kentucky with her dad and grandma. She's wandering around looking for friends, only seems to have some residual shyness and possible fear of bearded men.

A speedy trial may not be in the offing for the man accused of the brutal beating of two-year-old Amanda Runyon earlier this year.

St. Clair County Circuit Judge John Baricevic granted a continuance until June 2 in criminal proceedings against Kraig A. Monroe Jr. He also set a bond reduction hearing on May 13 at the St. Clair County Court House in Belleville.

    . . .

Monroe, 24, is being held in the St. Clair County Jail on $500,000 bond. He appeared in Baricevic’s courtroom for a status conference on his case on Wednesday afternoon.

    . . .

He acknowledged he understood Baricevic when he was asked if he understood what was being ordered but said nothing in court. The appearance only lasted a few minutes before he was led out of the courtroom by bailiffs.

Baricevic took the actions after Monroe had talked to his attorney, Rick Roustin. Roustin said Monroe maintains he is innocent and wanted a trial date set quickly. Roustin told Baricevic that there was still evidence and discovery issues that he needed to be resolved.

“There are an awful lot of things to look at,” Russo said later. Russo said he didn’t think a trial would begin until mid-summer.

St. Clair County Assistant State’s Attorney Steve Sallerson said a trial has to begin 120 days after an arrest. Monroe was arrested on March 2.

    . . .

Planning to attend the bond hearing and other court dates is Amanda Runyon’s grandmother Linda Ford. “I want to see justice,” Ford said after the hearing.

Ford said she believes Monroe is guilty but said Amanda’s mother, Dawn Obptande, should be punished. “They should both pay for it,” she said. She said she also was opposed to any reduction in Monroe’s bond

Ford said Runyon, who lives with her father, Eddie Runyon, in Morganfield, Ky., is continuing to recover. A surgeon at Cardinal Glennon removed an 18-inch section of Amanda’s intestine after finding a tear in her bowel. He said she should not suffer long-term effects.

She may need some counseling later on,” Ford said. “A two-year-old can’t always tell you what’s making her unhappy.”
    http://www.globe-democrat.com/news/2...-Kraig-Monroe/

If this trial actually gets underway this year, I'd call it fast. Seems like most of these don't get underway until about 2 years down the line.

There are so many reasons to celebrate when it comes to this story. I hadn't been back in this thread because I was really hoping she would survive and be with her daddy who obviously loves her. But I didn't want to come back and read that she died. So to my surprise, I click on the thread and read where I last left off, and nothing but great news. She is recovering, and that useless cunt is out of the picture.

Many, many years of nothing but happiness for you little Amanda. You deserve nothing but happiness, sweet baby girl

I am glad she is recovering, but those pictures of her with her hair so short, knowing they probably cut it that way to hide the chunks that crotch maggot ripped out of her head, makes me seeth. I hope he he gets a raging case of infected hemroids. And that bitch of womb provider would not have been happy if she thought a trustor would have denied the dad's request to use that money in the way she claims he is. Those are both acceptable expenses for the trustees guardian. So sorry to dsiappoint her...

Here's a video update for everyone, she appears to be doing well. Also, her father is engaged to a women with kids and they have another one on the way. Amanda is going to be a big sister!

Only down note of this...he still has to fight for custody?! She should never be allowed any kind of unsupervised contact with her child again.

I guess the legal side of it will take a while. I can't see why it wouldn't be a cake walk, given her mom's incredible lack of ability or will.

But, I'm now worried about his fiancée. I've been reading this site too much. I see a boogie man (or woman) in every relationship, now. Let's hope with Amanda's history, daddy is vigilant and Grandma will be nearby to provide some extra safety.

Bail reduced for defendant in Amanda Runyon beating case

A St. Clair County judge reduced the bail on Thursday for a man accused of beating his girlfriend's daughter.

Kraig Monroe Jr.'s bail was reduced from $500,000 to $300,000 after a court hearing on Thursday morning. St. Clair County Circuit Judge John Baricevic also ordered Monroe be placed on electronic monitoring and have no contact with Amanda Runyon, the 2-year-old girl who was found beaten in a Belleville trailer, or her family.
Richard Roustio, Monroe's lawyer, asked for the bail to be reduced to $200,000
Monroe, 24, of Belleville, must post 10 percent in cash -- $30,000 -- to be released from St. Clair County Jail.
Amanda stayed in SSM Cardinal Glennon Children's Medical Center in St. Louis for 17 days after she underwent surgery to remove more than a foot of her bowel. Amanda had tears to her liver and spent six days on a breathing machine.
    [...]
Amanda was living with her mother, Dawn Obptande, at the time she was beaten, but after Amanda was released from the hospital her father, Eddie Runyon, received custody of the toddler. Runyon works as a coal miner in Kentucky.
Monroe was still at the St. Clair County Jail late Thursday morning.

A reporter, Beth Hundsdorfer from the News-Democrat, went to some trouble to track down the monster:

Monroe is being monitored with an electronic ankle bracelet, and he's not allowed to have any contact with the victim's family.

On Wednesday, we went to the St. Clair County Jail to find out where Monroe is staying, but they told us we would have to obtain that information at the county probation office. We went to the probation office, they told us they weren't allowed to release the information.

We finally obtained Monroe's bail agreement from the St. Clair County Circuit Clerk's office, but it turns out Monroe wasn't at the address listed on the agreement. We tried asking the people at the home where Monroe was, but a woman cursed us out and told us to leave.

Monroe's attorney, Rick Rustio, told us he knows where his client is staying, but isn't making that information public. Roustio also told us the proper authorities are aware of Monroe's location. Roustio also told us the evidence will show his client isn't guilty of the crime, and the case will come down to a timeline that will show Monroe didn't have the opportunity to beat Runyon.
    http://www.bnd.com/2010/05/19/126239...n-beating.html

As I recall, he did this to her over a 4-day period. Are we going to learn he wasn't there for those 4 days? Was mommie home after all? Hmmm. Can't wait to hear this.

Family members of two-year-old Amanda Runyon say justice is taking too long in the near-fatal beating of the little girl.

No one could guess from watching Amanda that she was nearly beaten to death 9 months ago. But if her body has healed, her emotions have not. When News 4 walked into the room Monday, she drew back, worried that we might hurt her.

Her grandmother, Pam Runyon said, "Before this happened she was so outgoing, she would go to anybody, total strangers, didn't care if they were male or female, like her daddy she could talk to a fence post. Now she's expecially shy around men, sometimes even afraid."

Kraig Monroe, 24, is facing a felony charge for Aggravated Battery of a Child. Monroe has had numerous court appearances, but Monroe is free on bond while awaiting trial. Pam Runyon has attended all of his hearings and is growing impatient with delays.

"The status is still the same. Status just means he's out, and free to live his life, and Amanda's life is ever-changed," she said.
    [...]

Amanda's dad still lives with the little girl in Kentucky. He's still hopeful the justice system won't let him down.

"I think he needs to go to jail. I can't say how long, but it would be nice if he'd at least admit it. he needs to go to jail," he told News 4.

Amanda's mother was arrested but not charged in this case. Kraig Monroe's next court hearing isn't until January 12th. It's another status conference.

His attorney told News 4 he doubts this case will go to trial before late spring, which will not be good news to little Amanda's family.

I'm so sorry for this little girl. The case is taking a long time, but we've seen here on this site it's a rare case that takes less than two years to get to court. The worst part is that the guy is out on bail. But, as I see it, that just means that hunting season on Kraig Munroe is open.

Three-year-old Amanda Runyon loves baby dolls and lip gloss.

She doesn't care for doctors, hospital wristbands and strangers -- especially men.

"She wasn't like this before," said her father, Eddie Runyon. "This has changed her." . . .

Runyon received custody of his daughter when she was hospitalized, though he now allows Obptande to have visitation with certain conditions.

"I don't care if she sees her mom, but I want to know that she is going to be safe," Runyon said.

Eddie Runyon and Amanda recently moved back to Marissa. Eddie works at the nearby Prairie State Energy Campus. A family friend and Pam Runyon help out with babysitting. Amanda has playdates with her favorite playmates, cousins Paige Watson, 7, and Will Watson, 4.

    . . .

Amanda is healthy, though she experiences pain before a bowel movement and must take vitamin supplements to allow her body to absorb certain nutrients. She still has occasional nightmares.

    . . .

Eddie and Pam Runyon said they still struggle with how to explain to Amanda what happened to her. It's unclear how much Amanda remembers, but as she plays, she pops out with an unsolicited comment: "I don't like the bad man."

The Illinois Department of Children and Family Services was investigating allegations of abuse nearly a week before Amanda sustained the life-threatening injuries, but the extent of that investigation has never been revealed. And the department had investigated her treatment when she was only 10 months old.

But even after the passage of laws designed to allow confidential case files to become public in cases where children are severely injured or die, the Department of Children and Family Services has yet to release one report.

DCFS has received only a handful of requests in the three and a half years since the bill became law, said DCFS spokesman Kendall Marlowe, because of a provision in the law that allows a state's attorney to block the release if he or she believes it would interfere with the prosecution.

"In each case, the local state's attorney has asked that the report not be released, saying it would interfere with their criminal investigation," Marlowe said.

It's truly a miracle that Amanda lived. I wouldn't be as forgiving toward her mother as Eddie is. No way would I move back to her town and make it easy for her.

Apparently the trial of the s**tstain who beat Amanda is delayed to May.

I am amazed there is not more coverage of the trial delay of Kraig Monroe Jr, accused of beating 2-year-old Amanda Runyon trial. His trial has been pushed off until May. What other criminals can get this benefit and Amanda, although she seems to be doing well, but may have future problems. He claims he's innocent. If so, why is he so afraid to go to trial?

This was on KSDK's (NBC affiliate) website today, April 30th, 2012- I guess he just now got out?
St. Clair County, IL (KSDK) - The man accused of beating his girlfriend's daughter in March 2010 is out of jail.

Kraig Monroe posted 10 percent of his $300,000 bond and was release this week.

Police say he beat up Amanda Runyon because she wouldn't stop crying. She had surgery to remove part of her bowel and his still recovering.

She is now living with her father in Kentucky.

After watching KSDK's report tonight, I think the above update is wrong... evidently Kraig pleaded guilty today and will be sentenced in June. I'll update as soon as I can!

The man accused of beating his girlfriend's daughter in March 2010 is out of jail.

Kraig Monroe posted 10 percent of his $300,000 bond and was release this week.
    Open season!!!

And now KSDK, those dumbasses, have their website updated correctly-
He pleaded guilty and faces 6-30 years. And, one would hope, an eternity in hellish damnation. But that's just me.

Belleville, IL (KSDK) - A man accused of critically beating his girlfriend's two-year-old daughter pleaded guilty Monday morning in the St. Clair County Courthouse.

Kraig Monroe, 26, entered an open plea to aggravated battery of a child, stemming from a February 2010 incident.

Prosecutors said Monroe was babysitting Amanda Runyon when he beat her over a three day period. The child suffered a laceration to her liver and had to remove a quarter of her intestines. Runyon also had bruises on her forehead, abdomen and spine.

    Monroe initially pleaded not guilty.

Kraig Monroe faces between six and 30 years in prison when he's sentenced on June 28. He will have to serve at least 85 percent of the sentence.

Whiplash! So, he's not getting out on bail? Probably just as well, since I would have been tempted to go get some target practice.

Amanda must be getting so big now. I hope she is continuing to do well.
