PHOENIX (AP) - The former head basketball coach at Eastern Arizona College has been arrested on charges related to an affair he allegedly had with an underage Thatcher teen.

Tim Parmeter was arrested in Safford last week during a traffic stop. Pima Justice Court records show an arrest warrant for sexual misconduct with a minor was issued April 8th, and Thatcher Police Chief Mark Stevens said he was arrested three days later.

The 38-year-old Parmeter could not be immediately reached for comment.

Parmeter's estranged wife and their 2-year-old son died in a murder-suicide 16 months ago. Paula Parmeter left a suicide note taunting her husband and blaming him for the collapse of their marriage.

The girl who claims she had an affair with Parmeter told police it began when she was 16.
