Crystal Mangum, Duke lacrosse Accuser, Has A Hissy Fit

Crystal Gale Mangum, 33, gets 15 counts: attempted first-degree murder, five counts of arson, assault and battery, communicating threats, three counts of misdemeanor child abuse, injury to personal property, identity theft and resisting, delaying and obstructing an officer. No bail.
Shortly after 11:30 p.m., police received a 911 call about a domestic dispute at 2220 Lincoln St. Authorities said they believe the call came from one of the three children inside the house.

When officers arrived, they found Mangum and her boyfriend, Milton Walker, 33, fighting. According to police documents, Mangum scratched, punched and threw objects at Walker and told him, "I'm going to stab you, (expletive)!"

She then went into a bathroom and set his clothes on fire in the bathtub, police said. Officers called the fire department to put out the flames. No one was injured.

Milton was not charged in the incident, police said. The three children inside the house, ages 3, 9 and 10, were not injured.

Police charged Mangum with identity theft because she gave them a fake name, "Marella Mangum," and age, authorities said. She also resisted the officers who responded to the scene, according to police documents.

Nearly four years ago, Mangum, who was an exotic dancer, accused three Duke Lacrosse players of raping her at an off campus party.

The case made international news and the charges against the Duke students were eventually dismissed.

Since the case, Mangum graduated from North Carolina Central University and wrote a book. "The Last Dance for Grace: The Crystal Mangum Story," which was released in 2008.

Yet know, my master, God omnipotent,
Is mustering in his clouds on our behalf
Armies of pestilence; and they shall strike
Your children yet unborn and unbegot,
That lift your vassal hands against my head
And threat the glory of my precious crown.

The Durham woman best known for accusing members of the Duke lacrosse team of rape in 2006 spoke with reporters Wednesday about her February arrest on domestic violence charges.
    [...]

Mangum spent three months behind bars before Hammond and Hammond bail bond service posted her $100,000 bail in May free of charge. Mangum's bail originally was set at $1 million before being lowered.

Mangum told reporters Wednesday she didn't attack Walker and didn't burn his clothes. She said she believes her involvement in the Duke Lacrosse case influenced what happened to her in February.

"I do feel that I am being unjustly treated because of preconceived notions about my character in the media," she said.

Mangum said Walker attacked her in February.

"Once he started punching me in my face, I was able to get away from him. My children and I went into a bedroom," said Mangum. "I couldn't understand why the police would blame me for attacking Milton when I could barely walk, and I had bruises on my face that they took pictures of."
    [...]

Now, Mangum says she wants to move forward with her life and close the door on her past.

"Enough is enough. I've lost my father; I've lost custody of my children because of a domestic violence issue," she said.

Crystal Gail Mangum says the system is out to get her.

With a monitoring bracelet strapped to her right ankle, Mangum, 31, held a press conference Wednesday in front of a Savannah Avenue residence - where she is under house arrest - to defend herself against a February domestic violence arrest. She was unable to walk to the driveway because of the bracelet.
    [...]

"I don't feel like I'm going to get the justice that I deserve through the judicial system, and I feel this is my only and last means to reach out to the public and let them know that I did not set a fire that night," she said.
    [...]

She pleaded for her ex-boyfriend to come forward and tell the truth about what happened.

Mangum said her boyfriend, after taking her to the emergency room for a spinal tap, started hitting her and accusing her of cheating after she asked him to leave the residence. She said she and her three children ran into a bedroom for safety. She said she doesn't know who set the home on fire but that her ex-boyfriend was the only other person in the home.

Good grief, is this bitch still trying to claim she's a victim?!
I'll tell you who the real victims were in this whole mess are.
    1) The three innocent men she accused, who were subject to false arrest, death threats, huge legal fees and having their names destroyed, all based on lies.
    2) The rest of the lacrosse team, who were basically branded as potentional rapists and stonewallers, were subjected to death threats, harrassment by fellow students and teachers, had their season canceled and watched their coach be fired.
    3) The last group of victims, one whom the NAACP,several women's rights groups and others threw aside in their rush to advance their own agendas against the evil rich white boys who raped the poor hard working black woman who had to become a stripper to support her kids.
And that group is every woman, child and man who has been raped and is too afraid to come not only because of the fear, guilt and shame they feel, but also the fear no one will believe them. Supporting Crystal when it became plain as day that she was lying has only made it worse for true victims of rape and the groups who support them.
I had suspcions early on about whether or not she was lying, but it amazed after she told one version of the attack that had the other stripper joining in her rape that people still supported this farce. When it's obvious the person is lying, they DON'T deserve their day in court.
It also galls me that many still say, yes the three men and the rest of the lacrosse team were innocent but, they were drinking, they hired a stripper blah blah blah. Funny, I hear those same lines about some women who have been raped. Yes she was raped but, she was drinking, she was flirting, she was yadda yadda yadda. There is nothing that justifies rape and nothing to justify what happened to these young men, NOTHING.
Go away Crystal, you aren't a victim. You're a selfish bitch whose's impact will be felt any time a person who has truly been victimized won't be heard because of you.

Unless things have changed in the last few years, I can tell you that spinal taps are painful as hell, if she had one that night she's either the incredible hulk or he was lying about her really causing damage by physically assaulting him.
Dunno though, maybe she was so out of it on painkillers...
Don't get me wrong, I think she's nuts but why in the world would cops call the fire department to put out a fire in the BATHTUB?
Doesn't that sound a bit strange to anyone else?
You have instant access to water...why wait for the FD?

Stories like this are just wtf more than anything because you just know everyone is lying.

"I do feel that I am being unjustly treated because of preconceived notions about my character in the media," she said.

Doesn't she think by lying about being raped to the whole world through the media would give people reason enough to have those preconceived notions about her character?

It isn't helping she's already giving conflicting stories about this case:

"I couldn't understand why the police would blame me for attacking Milton when I could barely walk, and I had bruises on my face that they took pictures of."
"Mangum said her boyfriend, after taking her to the emergency room for a spinal tap, started hitting her and accusing her of cheating after she asked him to leave the residence. She said she and her three children ran into a bedroom for safety."

So, it was either she could barely walk, or she and her children ran.

I agree with Aslan, spinal taps DO hurt. In knowing that why would she "ask her boyfriend" to leave? Those spinal taps hurt so bad it's usually helpful to have an adult around that can help take care of you or help out until the pain subsides. Did she expect her minor children to know what to do if something happened and she needed to go back to the hospital? I'm seeing many reasons already to have doubts about her story. I think she just wants her name back in the news. If she feels that persecuted by the courts and police there she should have moved her ass somewhere else. I really think they had to have had a good reason to have arrested her since it's usually the male who gets taken away during domestic violence situations. Police normally assume the men are the aggressors even when that isn't always the case.

New arrest order for Duke lacrosse accuser
DURHAM (WTVD) -- A judge has ordered former Duke lacrosse accuser Crystal Mangum arrested again.

Officials say Mangum violated the terms of her pre-trial release related to the visitation hours with her children.

Mangum turned herself in Thursday morning. She declined to comment to reporters on the advice of her attorney. Bond was set at $150,000.
Mangum is the Durham woman best known for accusing members of the Duke lacrosse team of rape in 2006. The players were later exonerated and the charges against them dropped.

In February, police charged Mangum with attempted murder, arson, and child abuse after a domestic dispute with her boyfriend.
According to an arrest warrant, the 33-year-old scratched, punched and threw objects at Milton Walker before setting his clothes on fire in a bathtub. Arresting officers said Mangum threatened to stab Walker while they were at her home. They went there after one of her children called 911.
Mangum spent three months behind bars before Hammond and Hammond bail bond service posted her $100,000 bail in May free of charge. Mangum's bail originally was set at $1 million before being lowered.

Looks like her supporters have hissy fits, too.
Former Durham city councilwoman and school board member Jackie Wagstaff has been jailed for ten days for contempt of court in the Crystal Mangum arson trial.

She was charged with contempt after saying "This is ridiculous" while Superior Court Judge Abe Jones was ordering the jury back into deliberation after two days of being split on Mangum's felony arson charge. Jones also ordered her to pay a $200 fine.
    [...]

Bailiff Staci Ottoway identified Wagstaff as the person. Jones then called Ottoway to testify to that under oath and called for public defender Lawrence Campbell, whose office is across the hall from the courtroom, to represent Wagstaff before the judge took any action against her.

Campbell then called Wagstaff to the witness stand. Wagstaff apologized to the judge and said she made the comment as part of an ongoing conversation with fellow Mangum supporter Victoria Peterson.

"It was just a sidebar," Wagstaff said. "It wasn't intended to disrespect your authority."

But Jones then called another bailiff, Scott Hodges, to the stand. Hodges testified that he has had to quiet Wagstaff two to three times a day over the course of the trial.

Jones said that Wagstaff's explanation "strains my crudility."

Both Hodges and Ottoway noted that Wagstaff and a handful of other Mangum supporters have been making audible comments throughout the trial.

Jones also warned a few other supporters to stop the audible comments bailiffs have reported.

Jurors could reach a verdict this afternoon in the criminal case against Crystal Mangum.

The trial has entered its third week, and the jury foreman today told Superior Court Judge Abe Jones it had reached unanimous decisions on five out of six charges. She said jurors were split 8-4 before lunch today on the most serious charge, felony arson. After 20 more minutes of deliberation, the split changed from 9-3, and the jury didn't think they could narrow the split any further.

Mangum also faces charges of misdemeanor child abuse, injury to personal property and resisting an officer.

    For what it's worth...

Superior Court Judge Abraham Jones declared a mistrial on an arson charge against Mangum – the most serious charge she faced – when jurors deadlocked and said they couldn't reach a unanimous verdict after hours of deliberations.

Mangum was found guilty of three counts of child abuse, injury to personal property and resisting a public officer. Jones sentenced her to 88 days in jail, which she has already served while awaiting trial.

"I'm the only parent my children have ever known," she told the judge before sentencing, asking that she be able to see the children while prosecutors decide whether to retry the arson case.

The charges stemmed from a Feb. 18 incident in which police said she assaulted her boyfriend, Milton Walker, threatened to stab him and set some of his clothes on fire.

Mangum maintained that the pair had an argument and that he hit her, prompting one of her three children to call 911. Walker eventually backed up her story, saying he was responsible for the burned clothes and damage to their home.

Mangum declined to comment after the case.

Crystal Mangum charged in Durham stabbing

Crystal Mangum, the woman who was at the center of the Duke University lacrosse scandal, was charged early today with stabbing a man early this morning at a south Durham apartment.

Police charged Mangum, 32, with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury, according to a statement by the Durham Police Department.

When the officers arrived, they found a 46-year-old man who had been stabbed in the torso.

By late Sunday, police had not released the name of the male victim, who was described as Mangum’s boyfriend.

The stabbing apparently occurred during an argument between the couple, police reported.

The victim was taken to Duke University Hospital for treatment of serious injuries.

Officers found Mangum in a nearby apartment. She was arrested and transported her to the Durham County jail. She is being held in custody without benefit of bail, authorities said.

The "preconceived notions" about Crystal Mangum won't EVER go away b/c she HERSELF keeps shoving them down the rest of the world's throats. She's a boil on the ass of humanity. She just doesn't disappear. Maybe now she'll finally get what's coming to her for trying to wreck the lives of three innocent young men who are going on and rising above the mess that this woman made of their lives. She and Mike Nifong need to be locked away TOGETHER so the rest of the world can get on with the living. She's nothing but a lying pos. The only thing I regret right now is that Nifong didn't have to do any time for what he did. He's another piece of trash that needs to be thrown out.

Crystal Mangum's boyfriend taken off life support
DURHAM, NC (WTVD) -- Sources tell ABC11 Eyewitness News the boyfriend allegedly stabbed by former Duke Lacrosse accuser Crystal angum has been taken off of life support.

Reginald Daye, 46, was taken to Duke University Hospital for treatment on April 3.

Police say 32-year-old Mangum stabbed Daye in the chest during an argument at the apartment the couple shared in the 3000 block of Century Oaks Drive. Search warrants issued last week say Daye told responding officers Mangum stabbed him and took his money.

She was initially charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury. Sources say more charges could be filed against her. She remains in jail.

Former Durham district attorney Mike Nifong - who pursued the charges against the players - was later disbarred and was accused of withholding DNA evidence that would have cleared them.

Mangum went into hiding, then graduated from NCCU in 2008 with a degree in police psychology. Later that year, she released a memoir, "The Last Dance for Grace: The Crystal Mangum Story".

Then last year, Mangum was arrested and charged with attempted murder, arson and child abuse after a domestic dispute with a man she dated before Daye.

In December, the jury found Mangum guilty of child abuse, but they couldn't agree on a first-degree felony arson charge, which could have landed Mangum in jail for seven years.

I'm sure there are a line of supporters already claiming the "horrors" she encountered from the big bad Duke Lacrosse boys caused her to do what she did.
Before he died, I already saw people making excuses for her and asking for the fairness they weren't willing to give the accused lacrosse players. I see no reason why that will change now.

Duke lacrosse accuser charged with murder in boyfriend's stabbing

Duke lacrosse accuser charged with murder in boyfriend's stabbing
(CNN) -- A North Carolina woman who stirred national headlines when she accused three Duke University student-athletes of rape is now herself accused of murder, a county law enforcement official said Monday.

Crystal Mangum, 32, was charged Monday with murder, five days after her boyfriend succumbed to stabbing-related injuries at a Durham, North Carolina, hospital, according to Candy Clark, a spokeswoman for the Durham County District Attorney's Office. She also is now facing two felony charges of larceny.

Prosecutors reassessed the charges against Mangum after the death of Reginald Daye at Duke University Hospital on Wednesday.

    Reginald Daye dies last week

Police say she stabbed the 46-year-old man in the torso during an argument early on April 3 at the apartment the couple shared in Durham.

Later that day, Mangum was arrested and charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill, police said. She was placed in the Durham County Jail without bond, where she remained Monday.

Mangum's next court appearance on the murder charge has not been scheduled, but the district attorney's office said it will occur no earlier than May 2.

In March 2006, Mangum claimed she was sexually assaulted by three players on the Duke lacrosse team -- annually one of the best collegiate squads in the nation -- while performing as a stripper at a team party.

North Carolina's attorney general later found no credible evidence that the attacks occurred and the charges were dropped.

The scandal, however, forced the cancellation of the men's lacrosse season that year and the resignation of team coach Mike Pressler. It also led to widespread criticism of then-Durham County District Attorney Mike Nifong, who was eventually disbarred for his handling of the case.

In February 2010, Mangum found herself on the other side of the law when she was charged with attempted murder after a fight with her then-boyfriend. She also was accused of arson, identity theft and resisting arrest, among other charges.

CNN affiliate WTVD-TV reported that this arrest happened after she had set fire to a pile of the boyfriend's clothes while her children were at home.

    Boo fucking hoo

Former Duke Lacrosse accuser Crystal Mangum pleaded with a judge Tuesday to reduce her bond so she can spend time with her children.

Mangum is charged with murder in the stabbing death of boyfriend Reginald Daye, 46, back in April.

Police say she stabbed Daye during an argument. He died in a Durham hospital about 10 days later.

An autopsy says a knife punctured his left lung and damaged his diaphragm, stomach, colon, left kidney and spleen.

Mangum's bond is set at $200,000. Her attorney told a judge Tuesday that her children are not allowed to visit her in jail.

The judge declined to lower Mangum's bond, but said he would revisit it later.

Mangum's attorneys sought a mental evaluation in September to determine if she is competent to stand trial, and defense attorney Chris Shella said Tuesday that psychiatrists found that she was competent.

Shella asked that Mangum's bond be cut from $200,000 to $50,000, noting that her family and friends could put together that much to get her out of jail. Shella said Mangum could remain confined to a friend's home until trial.

Getting Mangum out of jail is the only way for her to see her children, Shella said. A court order in a child custody case ruled that the children couldn't be brought to the Durham County jail.

Prosecutors objected to lowering the bond, saying it was already smaller than those set in manslaughter cases, much less a murder case.

Shella tried to portray Mangum as the victim in the April argument, saying she had bruises when she was arrested. Prosecutors noted that Daye was stabbed in the chest.

Daye, 46, and Mangum had been dating for about a month at the time of his death, but his family members said they weren't a couple. They said Daye was only trying to help Mangum get back on her feet and had provided her a place to stay.

Mangum's bond was cut in June from $500,000 to $200,000, and Superior Court Judge Carl Fox said he was concerned that the bond is now low for a murder charge. So, he declined to reduce it further.

No trial date has been set, but Fox said the bond issue should be revisited in January.
