John Waters arrested for punching 3-month-old son

Authorities say a Volusia County man was arrested for punching his 3-month-old son in the stomach twice and then slapping him across the mouth. Investigators say the baby was hospitalized with five fractured ribs.

Authorities say Waters, his girlfriend and the baby, were at their Holly Hill home sleeping on their bed on Monday, when the baby started crying. Officials say Waters told detectives he rolled over and punched the infant twice on the stomach with a closed fist. Authorities say that later he picked up the child to give him his bottle and slapped him across the mouth because he still would not
stop crying.

i always wonder if thay state it as calm as i imagine them to? when reading about it, idk? it always reads to me as if they are matter of fact about it. i don't know if i could stand to sit there while dude is like 'well, the baby wouldn't (insert verb here) so i punched it in the head a couple of times'.

At least the mom took the baby and left, rather than trying to cover for the asshole. And his own mother called the police when the mom brought the baby to her. Good on grandma for having a little common sense in this matter.

Palm, who did not return calls for comment on Tuesday, had telephoned police after the baby's mother arrived at her residence on 15th Street, Barker said. The infant's mother did not return calls for comment on Monday either.

When police went to Waters' apartment at the 400 block of Eighth Street, he admitted hitting the baby, police said. In fact, he demonstrated it by punching his open hand twice, the report shows.
