Hope Mills, N.C. — A Hope Mills woman faces charges of felony obstruction of justice in a sex case involving a 6-year-old girl.

Investigators say Amanda Cowen, 29, of 3238 Vardaman Ave., forged and disseminated a malicious MySpace message, claiming the girl lied when she told authorities that Cowen’s husband had sexually abused her. The incident reportedly occurred between Nov. 10 and Dec. 30.

Detectives determined that Cowen was trying to get charges of child abuse dropped against her husband by posting the MySpace message.

Cowen was released after posting a $3,000 bond on Wednesday. Her first court appearance is Thursday.

Her husband, Trever Ried Cowen, 26, also of 3238 Vardaman Ave., faces several charges, including taking indecent liberties with a child and first-degree statutory sexual offense.

Cowen was being held under a $150,000 bond at the Cumberland County Detention Center on Wednesday.

I truly don't get these women. Are they that desperate to hear someone say I love you they're willing to throw away their kids to do it?

daisy...the case isn't based upon a false profile. The question here revolves around a message that a third, separate party had in their myspace inbox, allegedly from the original accuser in this case.

It's a little complicated here. There are three myspace accts. One is Cowen's, one is her ex's, and one is the witnesses'. The ex is the original accuser, and he allegedly sent the witness a msg on myspace. Cowen logged into that acct, with the witness' permission, allegedly to retrieve the msg.

Her warrant lists the evidence as proof that she did, in fact, log into the witness' myspace. But, it does not list any evidence as to the IP address from which the message originated from. I would think that's important in proving whether or not Cowen actually falsified the msg, writing it herself. And, how would you do that anyways? How do you send a msg to one party and make it look like it was from another party on myspace? IDK, especially since Myspace doesn't accept HTML coding.

I agree with ssgpiteo, this story isn't entirely accurate. What this story doesn't tell you is that Cowen actually contacted WRAL last week requesting help, asking them to look into the story. In addition, she also shared with them that she anticipated being arested again...that's right, again. This is the third arrest for Cowen in this case, the other two charges were dimissed before it ever reached the trial stage-because of lack of evidence.

I do have first hand knowledge of the case as well, I have seen the evidence that Cowen has against a third person that is also involved in this story...although I cannot jump up and down proclaiming the innocence of Cowen and her husband because I wasn't there, I will say that it is truly disappointing that the criminal justice system in Fayetteville has barely glanced at the evidence in this case. Unlike other areas across our 'Free' country, here probable cause consists of the word of one officer, and they aren't always honest themselves.

I have a totally separate, private Facebook with photos for friends and family. Only very limited photos are ever posted (or on D'D) on my public accounts and never without permission of those in the pic. Once it's public, it's totally out of your control.

OK so i know these people real well. I was not in the room when he supposedly did whatever to the little girl but ive known him all my life and i CANT picture him doing this EVER he is AMAZING with kids. He was in the army when he met amanda who was married with kids. She sent her husband who was in iraq a dear john letter and when he returned she dumped the kids on him and said shes divorcing him for trever. Trever likes her kids so why she did that im not sure. The ex husband claimed that his daughter told him trever touched her so he filed to get full custody (which he did, she abandoned her kids anyway). Theres always more to the story but i think trever IS innocent but amanda is NOT. she is a UNFIT mother and a liar. WHy trever is even with her is beyond us. He ruined his whole life and career just for the love of amanda. I hope she does jail time and never EVER gets her kids back. I DO believe that she lied to get trever out of jail because he IS innocent. From what i hear the ex hubby said he would do anything to ruin her life because she hurt him by sending the dear john letter to him while he was in iraq. And payback he did by filing the charges against trever. Thats why she is standing by trever. Im my opinon if the charges are false shame on the ex hubby shame on amanda for giving away her kids and shame on trever for staying with this looser. BTW she married him while he was IN JAIL she is a lOOSER and ruined trevers life
