A transgender person has been booked on murder charges in connection with the death of a 45-year-old man.
Police described Jacob Josh Davis as a man, but Davis is undergoing gender change and wants to be called "she." She said she is known as "Jacky" and, dressed as a woman, makes a living working as a Union Avenue prostitute.
She is accused of murdering Arthur Arnold, 45. She said they lived together -- between breakups -- for six years in a small trailer in a mobile home park at 3730 K St., near Sam Lynn ball park.
Davis said she met Arnold when the two were in jail in 2002, when Arnold was awaiting trial on a misdemeanor charge of inappropriately touching two girls.
In a jailhouse interview Wednesday with Channel 17’s Kiyoshi Tomono, Davis said she and Arnold were using methamphetamines Saturday when they began to argue.
"He lost it," Davis said in the interview. "He lost it in his head and went crazy. I've never seen that look in his eyes before."
She said Arnold chased her out of the home with a knife. There was a struggle, and Davis grabbed another knife.
"I stabbed him to get him away from me. I just wanted him to get away from me. I'm not a violent person. I'm really not a violent person."
"I just wanted him to get away from me."
Arnold was taken by ambulance to Kern Medical Center, where he died Tuesday morning. While he was in the hospital, he told investigators Davis had stabbed him.
Meanwhile, Davis went into hiding. On Tuesday night, after her photo was broadcast on television, someone called police to report seeing Davis get into a taxi at a local hospital. The cab company told officers where Davis had been dropped off – 8th Street and Union Avenue -- and she was arrested without incident.
Davis admitted she had worked as a prostitute, dressing as a woman and soliciting sex on Union Avenue. According to court documents, she solicited the same police officer twice within 15 minutes on Union Avenue in January. She’s facing separate misdemeanor charges.
She said she was forced to prostitution by necessity.
"Point A is being on the streets and not having a place to stay, and Point B is having a motel room and some money in my pocket. I’m gonna do what I have to do get from Point A to Point B. And I don't rob, I don't steal."
"And I really don't look ugly when I put on makeup."
She said she was working as a prostitute Tuesday night when she was arrested in connection with the homicide.
Davis is being held in the men's section of the downtown jail.
Court records show Arnold was sentenced to a year in jail in 2002 after he was convicted of the misdemeanor charge of inappropriately touching young girls. He was required to register as a sex offender, according to court documents.
