Woman Seeks Help In Finding $15,000 Cat

SAN DIEGO -- The owner of a rare cat missing since last week is hoping to get the animal back to safety.

Bridgette Cowell's Savannah cat, Katie, is as clever as she is expensive. Cowell told 10News her rare cat is worth $15,000, and she escaped from the Mt. Helix home of a breeder.

"It does sound insane, but once you've met one maybe you would understand why it is such a special pet," said Cowell
Katie is a cross between a domestic cat and a wild African cat called a serval. She is 16 inches from the shoulders and has spots like a leopard.

Beautiful cat. But I'd like more details on the 'clever' part. My (dearly departed) orange kitty was VERY CLEVER. He'd alert me to animals outside or people at the door, let me know when something was happening on the stove, catch mice...and I truly believe he fully understood what was being said to him. He was a fur person.

They're gorgeous cats, but their close relationship to wild cats not only makes them extremely intelligent, but also very very dangerous to local fauna like frogs, birds, lizards etc as they're excellent hunters. They're just half a step down from jungle cats.

They're banned from importation here in Australia, but interestingly enough I noticed in my local paper today that someone has some Savannnah kittens for sale. I'd love one but not only couldn't I afford it, I don't think the local wildlife would appreciate it.

I got your clever cat right here!!! A whole litter under my house!! and they don't cost nuttin'. silly people wild animal should stay where they're suposed to. I got a stupid sister in law that has a dog that's part wolf, Illegal to own I might add. she says she worried about him getting loose and hurting something, somebody but I think it's just the attention whore in her!!
