FP Login Problem

I tried to login on the FP today. I use WordPress. When I went to post on an article, it still showed "Post as Guest" even though on the right side under "META" it showed "Logout" because I had already signed in to WordPress. Any thoughts?

Wordpress is no longer used for commenting. Use one of the login buttons near the comment box. Make sure you have "third party cookies" enabled for your browser.



I used Disqus. It even had my Gravatar ready for me. Register with a user name, but you can have a different one as a display name.

Just register for a disqus account. It's really easy.

I like that Morbid linked the school facebook article to the front page. I would comment more over there, but frankly, logging in and out of WordPress, was a pain. It wouldn't recognize me from page to page. I think this new system might work better. Yay!

I never had a problem logging in. Actually I clicked remember me once and that was it. I may have had to sign in once after I cleared cookies or something.

I set my bookmark for the front page so I pass thru that on the way here. I usually manage to drop at least one dumb comment and I stay caught up. If more people do that it would be good for the site. It's all about the FP not the forums.
Plus, the articles are all handwritten and good reading. Way better reading than the copy/paste like I post:P

If you are using Disqus, you can have your Display Name as whatever you want.

On your Disqus "account information" page, click on "Disqus Profile" then on "Public Info". It does not need to be the same as the username you used to log in.

Only thing I noticed not seeing an obvious login button. It would say login in below but didn't see it. Is the name/email the same as login button? I had to post as a guest before because I couldn't login.

Where it tells you that you are a "guest", it also tells you to login. Select whichever button below that you wish to use to log in. Several methods available - your preference on which account to use. Disqus, Facebook, Twitter, OpenID or Yahoo!

Logging in that way WILL NOT allow you to comment. That only logs you in to Wordpress which is no longer used for comments. You need to log in via the Discus System (that uses those buttons above the comment box)

OK, I logout of wordpress but I do now see that META area. It appears you have the option to signin with disqus or wordpress. At the very, very bottom of FB page there is the wordpress login that hides behind the tools feature even when you minimize it. Anyhow, it does appear that I am automatically signed in when I login to the forum and go to FB I appear logged in. I'm on a mini-HP so not sure how to PNT-SRN on this thing or I would have posted that.

thanks, I think I got it figured out just kind of confusing with more than one option for signing in.

Anyone Know? If you use your real name on FB, does it use the same name on D'D for posting if you use that option to log in? I use a separate Disqus account so don't know how that works.

May be important to know for some who don't want their real name used (even though I am Dakota Valkyrie on FB, too LOL)

Hmmmm.... I used facebook to log into the toolbar chat and it just called me "facebookuser" or something until I gave myself a name. I would assume it is similar.

Logging into Wordpress at the Meta section is worthless unless you are one of the writers.

I have been using these instructions. Maybe I have not needed to log in at the meta section because I was already was on Discous. Whatever, don't listen to malq I don't know what the fuck I am talking about.

It’s so easy even a dumb redneck like me can do it. However, I do have a couple of questions. When I sign on to comment I click the box “Remember Me,” but I am no longer signed in when I go to the next page. Is there any other way to stay signed in? I also can’t figure out why I only get some comments by e-mail. Wordpress would send me all comments to a certain story if I requested. Now even though I chose the preference to receive all in my Disqus account as well as fill out my e-mail to subscribe to the stories comments, I still only receive a few of the comments, not all of them. Any suggestions?

In addition a reminder, just because you can’t sign on your Disqus account as the name you want, (I am not Coyote on my Disqus account), just go to “My Settings,” then “Public Info,” and type in whatever display name you want. Thanks for the tip on that one Dakota.

I had the same problem, at first, with it not remembering me. You need to check your browser settings and make sure it allows third party cookies.

If you use Firefox, it's under Tools > Options > Privacy (tab)
then make sure "Accept cookies from sites" and "Accept third-party cookies" are CHECKED

If you still use Internet Explorer, it's under Tools > Internet Options > Privacy (tab)
then make sure the setting used allows third-party cookies.

Thanks, I’ve got it now. As I said before, if I can do it, I know anyone that can find their way around the forums here can. I went to the front page for a year before I came in here. And like malq, I always go to the front page first. I look at the front page as the forum highlights; when I don’t have a lot of time I can just stop by there and read the top stories.

Any suggestions on the comments?

It's been some time since i posted successfully on the FP, I just cannot get logged in!! I see no clear way to loggin and under my comment i put in my email address/name and i was told it's an invalid email? same one i have registered here and can't figure out what i'm doing wrong. WHERE DO YOU LOGIN? pleeeaazzzze help!
