How do you get an unruly 6 year old to go to school? Call the cops on him!

Monroe Police were called to the house of an uncooperative six year old boy after his dad called for help. The boy apparently refused to go to school.

In the call released by dispatchers on Wednesday, the father says, "My son is acting unruly and is not wanting to go to school. I mean, he's only 6 but he's not wanting to go to school. I was wanting to see if one of you guys would talk to him or swing by here."

The police obliged and the boy eventually headed off to class.

Ugh! This crap aggravates me so much! If you want your 6 year old to go to school and he doesn't want to go, what should you do? Pick his ass up and take him to school anyway! I hope the police dept sends the parents a bill for services rendered and CPS should force these non-parents to take parenting classes.

OMG! my boy of 6 yo would have freaked out had I done this. He is all fascinated on what police do and how they go about handling problems. There are days were I want to pull my hair out 'cause he does't want to get going but call the cops, wow, just threatening to do that would get him going for sure, but don't think I want to resort to threatening that way....at least not yet....lol. I find a good nights sleep, and hubs getting him up playfully works best for us.

I have a 6 year old too. I am sure there are days that she would like to stay home too. However she is unaware that this is even an option for her. School is mandatory, no discussions, period! When did parents start letting their children intimidate them and run the show at home? Parents are way too lenient and permissive with their kids in these cases.

i started brainwashing my child at a very early age. i told her school was great and fun and she would get to learn everything about everything and do art and music...
and she bought it hook, line, and sinker. she loves school. the other day she came home 'cause she got sick in the lunch room, we picked her up, and after being home 10 mins. she asked if she could go back!

Momma, my son had a very hard time transitioning into kinder BUT now he does love school. I think it is smart starting early with what to expect and talking about the fun on school. My son did pre-k there but still kinder was such a huge change he didn't want to go at first. Now he just talks about all the stuff he's learning, right now its all about the arctic and polar animals. Pene, I think you are right too parents are too lenient and permissive. The school must have much trouble with kids missing a lot of school, as they have very strict attendance policies at my sons school.

    Wow, what have we become?
This is all sorts of stupid. So who is supposed to be applauded here? Dumbass dad who allowed his 6 yr old to tell him how it's going to be, or the officer we pay taxes for to waste his time doing dad's job?
Not to bore you with a long "When I was 6 and didn't want to go to school" story. Because it isn't long. My mother would have dragged me by my ears, nose, legs, arms. Anything she could get a hold of. Education was important. Kids calling the shots was so ridiculous it wasn't even considered

This comes down to basic parenting skills or lack thereof. I will however thank the Dad for stepping away from a situation he had no control over INSTEAD of beating the holy hell out of the child. How many stories of dead or beaten children have we seen because the "parent" lost control of their emotions?
