Tanya Nareau wanted a gun, not a daughter

The Maricopa Sheriff’s Department says Tanya Nareau, 33, offered to give to her daughter one of the girl’s relatives in exchange for a gun.

The girl’s family members tell CBS 5 that Nareau originally made the offer during a phone call last week.

They said Nareau unexpectedly showed up at the relative’s workplace Monday and handed him her daughter. He did not give her a gun.

It is unclear why Nareau wanted a gun, but she cannot legally buy or own a firearm because she is a convicted felon.

Nareau did explain why she wanted to give her daughter away, according to Maricopa Sheriff’s Department spokesperson Doug Matteson.

“She told sheriff’s deputies she felt that she couldn’t raise the daughter adequately, so she would give the daughter to someone who could,” he said.

I'm not saying that trying to trade her daughter in for a gun was the right choice, but at least she can admit that she's not a good mother...if more egg donors would realize this before killing their children imagine what a better world this would be!

If she felt that she could not be a proper mother-then she should not have gotten pregnant in the first damn place. Either close your legs or take some prevenatative measures. At least she knew she could not care ofr the baby and sought someone who could? I just think there are too many unwanted pregnancies and children in this world-people need to take responsibility and be more careful!

Poor child. My son is 2 yo, and it's such a tremendous time where baby is learning a new level of trust and bonding in a new way with mama. I will give her that she knows she can't properly take care of baby girl, but wtf does she want with a gun? my guess is killing the sperm donor or taking her own life or both.

Baby will be fine, (I hope), now that she's not in the midst of this craziness. This woman sounds like she is back were she needs to be, she really sounds like she has major issues, probably needs a shrink too.

At least it was to family (who seems to be somewhat a follower of the law for reporting this) instead of a S.O. As pathetic as that sounds I'd rather see that happen any day instead of hearing about another baby put in the trash or sold for sex.

Authorities say they have arrested a Mesa woman who allegedly tried to trade her 2-year-old daughter for a gun.

Maricopa County Sheriff's deputies went to the home of 33-year-old Tanya Nareau on Tuesday after receiving a tip about the swap.

While at Nareau's home, a family friend who had the child confirmed to deputies that Nareau gave the girl to him for a gun.

Deputies say Nareau felt that the friend would do a better job in raising the child. They say Nareau also claimed she could not buy a weapon because she's prohibited to do so by law.

Authorities say Nareau has been booked into county jail. She's charged with the unlawful sale of a child and solicitation to possess a weapon by a prohibited person.

It was unclear whether Nareau had a lawyer
