Latisha Breckenridge Blamed the Furniture for Her Niece's Death

AZ - Latisha L. Breckenridge, 29, has been arrested on suspicion of second-degree murder and child abuse in the death of her 3-year-old niece.

On March 19, Juliana Ruiz was transported to the hospital after Breckenridge called 911 stating that Ruiz had fallen off of a recliner and stopped breathing.

Doctors pronounced Ruiz dead on arrival.

During the initial investigation, police said Breckenridge maintained her story that Ruiz had fallen off of a recliner and stopped breathing, at which point she called 911.

According to the medical examiner, the 3-year-old's death could not have been caused by the fall that was described by Breckenridge.

On April 11, investigators interviewed Breckenridge again, and she admitted to becoming angry with Ruiz. She told police she grabbed the girl by her clothing, pulled her, and then pushed her back against a couch. She said she heard a pop when Juliana's back was pushed against the couch.

Breckenridge said that she tossed Juliana forward and she fell to the ground. After several minutes, Breckenridge realized the girl was not breathing and called 911.

Breckenridge was the girl's legal guardian.

I have this coffe table in my living room.....it is wicker, pine and iron. THAT is a dangerous piece of furniture. No matter where I place it, it somehow finds a way to sneak into the path of traffic in the middle of the night. This table has broken my toes 3 times...one of the kiddos has had her toe broken on it once. Hasn't eaten any babies lately though....

Anybody with dogs get those huge knucklebones for them? Just thinking of the number of times I've smashed my foot into one of them in the middle of the night, I'm surprised we haven't seen those blamed for the death of a child. You know, the child fell over the bone, or the dog dropped the bone on top of the child's head. There are so many opportunities for creative explanations that are just wasted!

Yeah...the whole furniture excuse is kinda old. I can think of all kinds of shit in my house that could accidentally injure and maim a child.

So what was the "popping sound" that was heard by the aunt? Broken back? Broken neck? Broken conscience? (on the aunt's part) Broken record........SSDD.
