    A fucking plea deal??

The only plea I want to hear is his pleas for mercy while being dragged behind a truck. Over a rocky road. With sharp rocks.

Man pleads guilty in dragging death of Buddy the dog

A man accused of dragging a stolen dog to its death in the Colorado National Monument pleaded guilty today in U.S. District Court to a federal charge of aggravated animal cruelty.

Steven Romero, 38, of Grand Junction will remain in federal custody. He is scheduled to be sentenced by Judge Philip Brimmer on July 30.

Jeff Dorschner, a spokesman for the U.S. attorney's office in Denver, said Romero is not receiving a plea deal.

Romero faces up to three years in federal prison, a $100,000 fine or both.

Prosecutors say Romero's sister had stolen the animal from the back of a pickup truck in Fruita but later told Romero to "get rid" of it.

Romero's sister, Melissa Lockhart, faces a felony charge for lying to investigators. She is next due in court on May 10.

Woman pleads guilty as accessory in dog’s death

A Fruita woman pleaded guilty this morning to a federal charge of being an accessory after the fact in a dog’s death on Colorado National Monument.

Melissa Lockhart, 32, will face a maximum 18 months in federal prison during a sentencing hearing scheduled for Sept. 17 before U.S. District Judge Phillip Brimmer. Federal prosecutors this morning agreed to dismiss Lockhart’s original charge, withholding information of a crime, which carried a maximum penalty of three years in prison.

I want to kill both of them the same way they killed than poor, sweet dog. I would drag them at a moderate speed so it would take longer. Oh, and I'd do it on the hottest day of the year, and they'd be butt-naked.

The longer I stay on D'D, the more persuaded I become to the prevalent, "some people are just bornwrong" school of thought. I used to think all of us were/are born innocent and good, now I just don't know. This guy committed a sickening crime, yet he seems bewildered by "all the fuss"; puzzled because it was "just a dog". I don't think he's faking or in denial. I think there really are people who are missing some vital parts in what I call the soul, or the heart...whatever works for you.

People thus afflicted should not be punished for the way they feel, but they can and should absolutely be punished for their actions.

I volunteer to drag him and I'll pay for my own gas!

"Born Bad or Broken?" Now that would be a subject for a true crime book! Probably already been done, but one of you talented slores could write one. You could give Morbid some money so he'll quit whining. Or not. Hell, he wouldn't change his avatar (which scares me), so to hell with him. Send money to me.

In case anyone was wondering, a motive is explained here:

A plea agreement says Lockhart had taken the dog, named Buddy, and another dog from the Delta area on Dec. 20 and that her brother, Steven Clay Romero, killed Buddy after it was blamed for the death of a kitten at Lockhart's house.

Woman who pleaded guilty in ‘Buddy’ case jailed on new warrant

A woman who pleaded guilty last month for her role in the death of a dog on Colorado National Monument was arrested Thursday on allegations she’s repeatedly violated terms of her release.

Melissa Lockhart, 32, was arrested by U.S. Marshals at the Wayne N. Aspinall federal building, 400 Rood Ave., one day after U.S. District Judge Philip Brimmer in Denver issued a warrant for her arrest.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Michelle Heldmyer earlier this week asked for a new warrant, alleging that Lockhart had an unexcused absence from a substance abuse treatment program, while adding Lockhart will be discharged from the program, according to court documents. Among her conditions of pretrial release, Lockhart was ordered to complete a treatment program.

“In addition,” Heldmyer wrote in a motion for an arrest warrant, “the defendant has been falsely representing her health status in order to avoid responsibilities placed upon her by this court and the state court.”

The motion for an arrest warrant was second in two months in which federal authorities have claimed that Lockhart has flaunted conditions of release. Lockhart was admonished by Judge Brimmer on May 6 after prosecutors alleged she missed seven consecutive meetings with her attorney.

On May 28, the judge again admonished Lockhart for continued “dismal performance” while on release, according to court filings. That same day, Lockhart pleaded guilty to a charge of being an accessory to a crime in the Dec. 30, 2009, death of Buddy, a dog killed at the hands of Lockhart’s brother, Steven Romero, 38.

Man who dragged dog to death gets maximum sentence

The man who dragged a stolen dog to death at the Colorado National Monument in December was sentenced today to the maximum prison term of three years.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Michelle Heldmyer characterized Romero as an extreme danger. She noted that his plea of guilty to aggravated animal cruelty was Romero's 11th felony conviction and that his crimes were escalating.

The prosecutor said that two days before Romero killed Buddy, he had threatened to kill two other dogs.

Heldmyer said Romero had gotten into a money dispute with the dog's owners and told her that if she didn't pay up, he would start by killing her two dogs and then kill her. The prosecutor said the threats were laced with profanities.

After he was incarcerated for killing Buddy, Romero asked people to establish an alibi for him by committing perjury in court, added Heldmyer.

Brimmer also ordered Romero to pay a $500 fine and $343.68 in restitution to the dog's owners. Romero is to have 12 months of supervised release after he gets out of prison.

Buddy was stolen from Sacha and Joseph Leber. The couple adopted Buddy from the Delta County Humane Society five years earlier.

On Dec. 29, while the family was at a Delta restaurant, Romero's sister, Marie Lockhart, allegedly stole Buddy and the Leber's other dog, Max, from the bed of the pickup.

Lockhart is charged with being an accessory after the fact to aggravated animal cruelty for her alleged attempt to cover up the dog's death.

Lockhart took the two dogs to her home and there Buddy purportedly killed Lockhart's cat. She then told her brother to get rid of Buddy.

"Pursue a stiff penalty" I think a baseball bat would be stiff, and application to the heads multiple times would do very nicely as the penalty.

While I'm pleased he will get the max, I just wish it were more.

Thank you for the update DogMom!
