Police say man put cat in washer

Police have cited a 22-year-old man who allegedly put his roommate's cat in the washing machine.

Just before 5 p.m. Sunday, Lincoln Police officers responded to a disturbance at 4722 Judson St., said Officer Katie Flood.

A 19-year-old woman told officers she confronted her roommate, Richard Andersen, after learning he had been putting her cat, Delila, in the washing machine, Flood said.

The woman told police the cat is fearful of people because of continual abuse by Andersen, Flood said.

During the confrontation, the woman grabbed Andersen's cell phone and watched a one-minute, 14-second video he allegedly had recorded of the abuse, Flood said.

The cat's owner later showed police the video, which shows a black cat in a top-loading washer consistent with the one in the residence, Flood said.

The machine is then turned on with the drum spinning, without water, Flood said. Andersen allegedly can be heard saying while laughing, "It's the spin cycle!"

Once the machine stops, Andersen allegedly says, "Kitty, come on kitty!" The cat is clearly disoriented, yet Andersen allegedly starts the machine again, Flood said.

Andersen was cited on suspicion of animal cruelty, a Class I misdemeanor, Flood said.

what we do is this...we tie his hands and his legs and put him in an industrial washer. then we set the water to 'hot' and the cycle to 'heavy soil', set the water level for a large load (heh, heh, i said 'large load'), turn on the machine and let 'er rip. oh, i forgot to add a cup of detergent and, just to be extra clean, 2 cups of Clorox! we charge $1 admission to watch, $2 to catch it on your cell phone and $5 to poke him down under the soapy water. patrons must provide their own sticks. since we don't want him to catch cold, we then put him in the dryer, set it to extra-heavy dry, throw in some large rocks to keep him company, and spin him for, oh, an hour or so. all the money we collect we will donate to the local Humane Society or to Rescue Ink. damn if i'm not sick of these moronic ass-wipes who think animal cruelty is fun.

I can see killing a cat or anything that needs it.But a cat in the washer is retarded.I live in the country and kill all kinds of critters all the time.I've got cats and I kill coyotes to keep them from my kitties.My Boo kills anything in his territory.I kill deer,fish,hell.I'll kill and eat jew!When I was younger we would kill critters for fun.We never tortured or mutilated a critter for fun.It was pure,honest murder.While I don't condone animal torture I do promote murder and food!PETA members need to come up in my yard.

Kitty survived but no word on if she was removed from the household. And this was not the first time this poor cat was abused by Andersen. The roommate was aware of the previous abuse. She's not exactly a bright bulb either.

Man accused of animal cruelty a no show at court

The man who police say put his roommate's cat in a washing machine soon will have a warrant for his arrest after failing to appear in court Tuesday on an animal cruelty charge.

Richard L. Andersen, 22, now faces a charge of failing to appear. Lancaster County Judge Gale Pokorny also ordered an arrest warrant and set his bond at $2,500.

If convicted, he could face as long as a year in jail on the misdemeanor.
