Supermarket Worker Who Licked Chicken May Be Jailed

(The Sun) - A supermarket worker who filmed himself licking a chicken before putting it back on a shelf has been warned he may face jail.

Adeel Ayub, 30, a former employee of British supermarket chain Asda, was seen tearing off the plastic wrapping from the bird and licking its skin, in mobile phone footage he and his colleagues posted on YouTube.

The films, which were later referred to police, also showed the group setting off fire extinguishers and urinating in bins in a North England chain of the store.

The footage was played as Ayub appeared in court Wednesday, facing five charges of criminal damage.

The other workers involved in the incidents between 2005 and 2008 have not been identified.

Prosecutor Philippa Jones said, "It is clear the group found it highly amusing and a great source of entertainment."

Court officials warned Ayub, who pleaded guilty to the charges, that he could be jailed when sentenced at a later date.

Ayub, who is described as being "deeply ashamed" of his actions, said, "I did not lick the chicken. I think I sniffed it."

I like his defense "i didn't lick the chiken, I only sniffed it". Can imagine having committed a crime where you would have to use the 'didn't lick it only sniffed it' defense? LOL!

Totally juvenile behavior. I laughed hysterically when he said he didn't lick the chicken. He THINKS he only sniffed it.

I do worry about a legal system that punishes people for completely non-violent "crimes" but lets child and animal abusers go with probation or a warning.

Good thing this is just a site to talk about things folks may or may not find interesting and not a news agency huh? If you are one of the folks that do not find chicken licking interesting, don't read about chicken licking. It tells you right in the title to the thread that this was about Chicken Licking

Honestly though, I was thinking this would be some vomit-inducing bestiality story involving chickens...so I'm kind of relieved he's only licking dead chickens!

What this idiot did is very dangerous those chickens were probably sold and full of bacteria, he could’ve caused a mass illness in that area, he basically poisoned those chickens and put a lot of people at risk
Anytime someone screws with food in grocery store and endangers the general public they should go to jail for a long time

While I agree what this guy did was gross and risky I doubt seriously he spread any type of disease. It was raw chicken that would later be cooked, removing any bacteria or disease. I think jail time is ridiculous and would only be a waste of taxpayers money. I do think he should be forced to take food management classes at his own expense.
