Man allegedly beat child for getting sick

AUSTIN (KXAN) - Police have arrested a woman’s boyfriend after they say he injured her 17-month-old child.

The victim’s mother tells investigators she recalls Tijerina commenting that if her son didn’t stop throwing up, he was going to hurt his genitals.

The next morning, the mother noticed bruising on and around her son's privates. She finally took him to Dell Children's Hospital three says later. Doctors, recognizing the child’s injuries as possible abuse, contacted police.

When questioned by investigators, Tijerina told them the boy fell down the stairs. Both officers and doctors feel the child’s injuries were not consistent with falling down stairs.

What's a parent to do with a sick kid? One mother apperantly thinks the thing to do is to drag her puking sick son over to her boyfriend's apartment. The boyfriend, Adam Tijerina, made it known that he didn't appreciate the boy repeatedly vomiting all over the place. The girlfriend says she recalls Tijerina mentioning if her son throws up in his home again, he's going to pull the 17-month-old's diaper off and hurt his genitals. I don't know why this didn't alarm her but it didn't and she spent the night.

The next morning, the mother noticed bruising on and around her son's privates. I don't know why this didn't alarm her, either, but she waited 3 days before taking the little boy to a doctor. Medical personnel found injuries all over his body, including severe bruising on his genitals, three 2-month-old leg fractures, and bleeding in his left eye. Of course, when questioned by investigators, Tijerina said the boy fell down the stairs.

Adam Tijerina has been charged with injury to a child with intent to cause bodily injury and is held on $30,000 bond. His previous history includes charges of charges of driving while intoxicated, unlawful restraint, assault on a family member and deadly conduct. The boy is expected to recovery fully and is now in the care of family members. No mention of possible charges against the mother. She's probably not alarmed by that possibility.

And my next question would be if the kid was throwing up that badly, why was he not at the doctor to start with? and if he was that sick, why did mom take him out of his house? and if he was sick, why was the mother not monitoring him better? and why did it take 3 days to get to the hospital? This makes me so mad. It makes me so mad I want to Hulk out and hurt people like this the exact same way they hurt this little boy, which makes me no better, but I sort of think it would make me feel better in the short term. In fact, I'm almost positive I'd feel better immediately.

I get that there are cycles of violence that are nearly impossible to break, but when I read about the sheer amount of people that regularly and maliciously hurt children that TRUST them or need them to survive, it makes me wonder when we lost our humanity as a species. The fact that our laws do not protect these children paired with the need for those laws is something that hurts to my very core. Do they simply not have a conscience anymore? I feel guilty if I yell at my cat to shut the hell up or stop clawing at her latest target. Or maybe all they see when they look at their kid is a reminder of what a monster they've become, and that's why they have to destroy him?

I'm confused with how hurting a childs genitals is going to solve vomitting?? I mean I can see a knuckle head saying "I'll ram that vomit back down his throat if he doesn't stop". Like the anger would be directed to the problem area (if that makes sense). Not that I would do this or agree with any knuckle head saying such a thing but I am just really struggling with how the heck hurting a penis will stop vomit????

I hope the little boy heals completely and doesn't remember what happened to him.
