I have to say, I love that story Athena. It has a few of my favorite topics, bad pee jokes, sex, irritating old people, creepy hotels... Best. Story. Ever.

On a side note, thanks for the advice about east coast tall grass. I haven't spent much time on that side of the country. Now I'm not sure I'd want to.

Oh, the east coast is fantastic. Nowhere I'd want to live personally because it's SUCH a culture shift, but a fantastic place to visit. I've spent a good deal of time in D.C. and Philadelphia specifically and can't wait to go back. The history is a marvel. And if you haven't been to the Museaum of Natural History at the Smithsonian, specifically the gem exhibit (where the Hope Diamond is housed), you're seriously missing out.

I really don't recommend a cheesesteak, though. Not exactly a culinary wonder.

Actually, they're very popular in my area of Denver. We have at least 4 restaurants within 3 miles of my place that serve them. Thankfully, most are served without Cheez Whiz, unless you request it specifically. They prefer to use real cheese around here.

A Lewes pediatrician was charged Friday with 26 new counts related to the sexual abuse of female patients ranging in age from three months to 13 years, police said.

Dr. Earl B. Bradley, 56, who operates BayBees Pediatrics, is being held on nearly $3 million cash bail after being re-arrested Friday. The action came after state police raided his practice Wednesday and seized computers and digital recording equipment that helped identify the victims, they said.

The charges are in addition to ones filed earlier this week after the parents of a 2-year-old girl came forward to report alleged abuse of their daughter. That enabled detectives investigating other complaints against Bradley to get a warrant to search his offices.

The search resulted in the discovery of graphic video files showing Bradley molesting and raping children, according to court documents.

A veteran computer forensic investigator said in court records that a series of video clips lasting almost 15 minutes and showing a 2-year-old were "one of the most violent and brutal attacks on a child of any age that he has seen captured on video."
    [...]

According to court records, Bradley kept video recordings made with a hand-held device in what he called the "Pinocchio" examining room, a toy room in the basement of his office where children would get treats and an out-building on the rear of his property where he would escort the children without their parents.

The videos date back to Aug. 7. The last recording was made Sunday, police said in court records.

In the last recording, a 2- to 3-year-old girl was seen screaming and trying to run away from Bradley, according to court records.

Lewes pediatrician Earl B. Bradley is now suspected of raping or molesting at least 16 patients, and more victims could be discovered in the widening investigation, according to court documents obtained Monday.
    [...]

Officers found six hand-held video cameras in the BayBees complex, which included Disney-themed examination rooms, a basement toy room and an adjoining garage, where he often took children to give them candy, ice cream or other treats -- all places where police said he committed and filmed sex acts.

Because the kids on the videos could not be identified, police seized scheduling computers at the office in hopes of matching appointments with video time stamps. The list of what was taken in Friday's office search has not yet been made public.

During a brief interview with Bradley after his arrest Dec. 15, Elliott wrote, the doctor said he had computers at his house that he uses to remotely connect to his office.

Police searched the three-story home at about 9:45 a.m. on Dec. 17, looking for computer or video evidence of child pornography. Bradley's son, one of the doctor's four grown children, signed the document that listed the items seized.

During the search, officers took several computers, laptops, still and video cameras, more than 100 DVD and VHS tapes and dozens of reel-to-reel films.

Sgt. Walter Newton, state police spokesman, said investigators expect to uncover more evidence on the items taken from the house. "We just got all this hardware and have to do the forensic examination and extract data and look for hidden files and images,'' Newton said .
    [...]

Newton did not know whether Bradley ever practiced in New Jersey or Florida, where he has held medical licenses. He said Delaware will notify three other states about the arrest. Bradley previously had a license in Pennsylvania, where he attended medical school and did his residency.

GEORGETOWN -- A pediatrician charged with sexually abusing his patients likely attacked more than 100 children at an office he had decked out with a merry-go-round and a ferris wheel, a state official said Wednesday.

The volume of evidence seized from Dr. Earl Bradley's practice and home, including video tapes and computer files, makes it difficult to estimate the number of victims, said Alexis Slutsky, a deputy attorney general assigned to the state's Child Predator Task Force.
"I'm comfortable in saying probably well over 100 potential victims," she said at a news conference with Attorney General Beau Biden and other law enforcement officials.
Slutsky said the investigation is focusing on cases between 1998 and the present.

    Michael Jackson much?

I don't have children so have never been to a pediatrician but I'm thinking that this is a little odd? As a parent wouldn't this throw up a red flag to you?

Doctor's attorney says case is "difficult".....

LEWES, Del. (AP/WBOC)- A lawyer for a Delaware pediatrician whom prosecutors say may have abused as many as 100 children says the case is difficult.

Eugene Maurer acknowledges the accusations against 56-year-old Dr. Earl B. Bradley of Lewes are "quite heinous." He says that's the case whether it is one victim or 100.

Police have arrested Bradleyh on 33 counts relating to seven victims ranging in age from 3-months to 13-years-old.

Maurer met Bradley on Wednesday for the first time. Maurer says he does not know much about the doctor's background, but called Bradley's mental health history "a potential issue." However, Maurer says he needs to get more information before deciding how to defend him.

A hearing Wednesday for Bradley was postponed amid what state officials said were concerns about Bradley's mental state, including concerns he is suicidal. Maurer says his client is not suicidal and he does not know why he is on a suicide watch.

He is being held on $2.9 million bond.
Maybe the attorney is trying to do us all a favor with that statement.....

Delaware's Board of Medical Practice ordered an emergency suspension of the license of the Lewes pediatrician charged with raping nine children ranging in age from a 3-month-old to a 13-year-old.

Though detectives had been investigating Temple University graduate Dr. Earl Bradley for about a year, and suspect him of raping or molesting many more patients, state police spokesman Sgt. Walter Newton says the medical board did not know of the probe until Bradley's arrest.

Officials found the doctor was “an imminent danger to the public” and decided immediate disciplinary action was warranted, according to the Division of Professional Regulation Director James Collins.
    [...]

A woman who said she watched Bradley inappropriately touch her daughter in 1999 during a doctor's visit said she filed a report with state police at least four years ago after hearing of similar complaints from other parents.

"This could have been stopped years ago," said the woman, who asked that her name not be published to avoid identifying her daughter.

Other parents wondered why Bradley was allowed to keep practicing after police began investigating more recent complaints over the past year. They also complained that police were slow in responding to them.
    [...]

Bradley's inactive Pennsylvania license was suspended last week. He has New Jersey and Florida licenses, but it does not appear that he practiced medicine there.

Nearly five years ago, Milford detectives wanted to charge pediatrician Earl Bradley for inappropriately kissing a 3-year-old patient, but the Attorney General's Office decided "they could not win the case," Milford police said.
    [...]

While a prosecutor has said Bradley's crimes could date to 1998, this week's revelation by Milford police Lt. Edward Huey about the 2005 complaint was the first time authorities have said they believed he could have been arrested earlier, potentially sparing later alleged victims.

The account also forced Beebe Medical Center to acknowledge -- after previous denials -- that officials there were aware of complaints against Bradley long before he was arrested.

The current charges are Delaware. Posted earlier:
Newton did not know whether Bradley ever practiced in New Jersey or Florida, where he has held medical licenses. He said Delaware will notify three other states about the arrest. Bradley previously had a license in Pennsylvania, where he attended medical school and did his residency.
    And now we see...
More than a year before pediatrician Earl Bradley was charged in December with raping nine young girls, police investigators had received complaints from eight alleged victims, including one who claimed her abuse occurred as far back as 1999, according to court records obtained by The News Journal.

The documents also contain police accounts of six unidentified witnesses who worked with him, including three doctors and a nurse. They described an eccentric pediatrician who conducted long or inappropriate vaginal exams on young girls, often took them alone to get "prizes" and installed video cameras in his offices.

One fellow pediatrician "indicated he referred to Dr. Bradley as a pedophile when talking to colleagues," state police Detective Thomas Elliott wrote in a probable-cause affidavit used to search Bradley's BayBees Pediatrics office near Lewes on Dec. 16 -- the day of his arrest.

People that should know, knew... and just let him go about his "business". Obviously it was probably only "suspicion" but they could have done things to make it more difficult for him to do that "business".

WILMINGTON, Del. (AP)- Gov. Jack Markell has chosen the dean of a Wilmington law school to review the state's handling of complaints regarding accused pedophile pediatrician Dr. Earl Bradley.

Markell announced that Widener University Law School Dean Linda Ammons will lead the review.

Sometimes it shouldn't be about whether or not you can WIN a case. It should be about whether or not you believe something has happened and even if you feel you can't WIN maybe the resulting publicity would help future victims. I know what I'm saying is basically trying and convicting a person in media but if they truly believed he did these things then why worry if you can't WIN? Just get the information out there and let it take him down with his business.

    Indicted!

Grand jury indicts Dr. Earl Bradley on 400 criminal counts
DOVER — A Delaware grand jury has returned a sweeping indictment against a pediatrician accused of serial child molestation.

The indictment against Dr. Earl Bradley of Lewes was handed up by a Sussex County grand jury this afternoon. It charges Bradley with more than 400 counts of criminal conduct.

Bradley was arrested in December and initially charged with 29 felony counts for allegedly abusing nine children, but state prosecutors have said there could be as many as 100 victims.

While I agree with you in theory, in practice, resources are limited, and pursuing cases that can't be won often usurps resources from cases that can be won.

If they had an inkling that the scope of his victimization was anywhere near this large, more would have been done. But at the time, for all they knew, it could have been a baseless allegation from a mother who decided the doctor charged too much or something.

Interviews with some of the parents.....

And, some victims parents have filed civil suits:
LEWES -- At least six families have now filed lawsuits against a pediatrician accused of pedophilia and a Lewes hospital where he once practiced, seeking damages for child sexual abuse.
One family of a 3-year-old sued Bradley and the hospital earlier this month. The complaint accused the hospital of failing to report concerns about Bradley and failing to oversee his behavior, despite signs of trouble.

Five more lawsuits were filed last week on behalf of children ages 2, 3, 5, 6 and 7, all by the same pair of attorneys, Hudson and Ben Castle. The lawsuits accuse Bradley of "sexual abuse on various occasions" throughout the children's lives, and charged Beebe Medical Center with negligence and "wanton and reckless conduct" in failing to report Bradley to appropriate medical and social service agencies.
....with video cameras that police allege recorded Bradley committing vicious and sometimes enraged sexual assaults against infants and young children.

Dr. Earl Bradley, charged with 471 counts of sexual crimes against 103 children.

A Delaware grand jury returned a sweeping indictment Monday against a pediatrician accused of serial molestation in what could be one of the worst child sex abuse cases in the nation's history.

The 160-page indictment returned by a Sussex County grand jury charges of Lewes with 471 counts of sexual crimes against 103 children.

The parents learned of the horrors just before Christmas. Bradley was arrested after 15 years as a pediatrician in the town of Lewes, a sleepy fishing village of 3000 on the Delaware shore.

Bradley was a popular doctor with children, reports CBS News Chief Legal Correspondent Jan Crawford. A visit to his office, called Bay Bees Pediatrics, was like going to an amusement park with a Ferris wheel and a merry-go-round

Local father Donnie Nauman Jr., said, "Almost everybody knows somebody that, yeah, their kid went there."

"He wanted the kids to come to him," Nauman told CBS News. "When they said they were going to Dr. Bradley's, they were like, 'Yay! We're going to Dr. Bradley because he's got the rides.'"

Attorney General Beau Biden said all of the alleged victims, including one boy, were caught on more than 13 hours of video recordings, some dating to 1998, that were seized from Bradley's office and home.

"The charges in this indictment are unique in the history of the state of Delaware, as far as I can tell," he said.

"These were crimes committed against the most vulnerable among us - those without voices," Biden added as tears welled in his eyes and he paused to collect himself.

Attorney General Beau Biden expects even more victims to be found.
    [...]

The vast majority of the crimes occurred since 2007, the indictment said. One victim, Jane Doe No. 39, was raped 15 times over 13 months, prosecutors allege.
    [...]

Police and prosecutors have accused Bradley of almost unspeakable depravity holding toddlers upside down and yelling at them while committing sex acts; penetrating a girl’s vagina with his hand when she was brought in for a sore throat, according to previously released court documents. In one Dec. 13 recording made three days before his arrest, a 2- to 3-year-old girl was seen screaming and trying to run away from Bradley, police wrote.
    [...]

Bradley’s arrest in December came after two previous attempts to build cases against him collapsed – once in 2005, when prosecutors did not file offensive-touching charges against him for excessive kissing of a 3-year-old girl, authorities have said, and again in 2008 after three parents told state police about inappropriate vaginal exams, but a Superior Court judge would not authorize a search warrant for his office.

It is mind boggling to me that this guy escaped prosecution for so long. Not only police report but complaints to hospitals and medical boards. All kinds of people knew/suspected. So many balls got dropped.

Dr. Earl B. Bradley, pediatrician, charged with molesting 103 patients

A Delaware pediatrician is accused of molesting at least 16 patients, including some who appear to be no more than 6 months old, and police said the doctor used video cameras to record some of the brutal attacks in exam rooms.

    Delaware State Police
Dr. Earl B. Bradley, 56, was being held on $2.9 million bond Tuesday, said Sgt. Walter Newton, a Delaware State Police spokesman. Police believe there could be more victims.

Bradley, of Lewes, faces 29 charges, including rape. He was charged last week with sexually abusing nine girls.

"Forensic evaluation of seized video files and software has to date discovered 15 more unidentified victims," according to a detective's sworn statement obtained by The News Journal of Wilmington.

While court officials released some records to The Associated Press, the detective's affidavit was not one of them.

An explicit 18-page document released to AP did, however, detail the alleged attacks in exam rooms, which had Disney themes such as Pinocchio, at BayBees Pediatrics, Bradley's solo practice. A detective who viewed the assaults described in court papers the 6-foot, 225-pound Bradley as having a "violently enraged expression on his face" in one video involving a 2-year-old.

Newton said he did not know if Bradley had an attorney. A listed home phone number could not be found for Bradley, and prison officials would not allow a call through to him for comment Tuesday night.

The detective, who noted he had viewed thousands of child molestation images, described the video "as one of the most violent and brutal attacks on a child of any age" that he had seen.

"At the end of the tape, the defendant re-dresses, offers the child a treat and tells her they are going in to see 'Mommy,'" according to the documents.

In another video, Bradley abuses a patient who tried twice to run away, the documents said. Some of the video clips were 20 to 30 seconds. Others lasted more than 11 minutes.

I want this old sick mother fucker DEAD. Not one minute more on this earth. Kids trying to run away from him screaming and all the other accounts have done a number on my soul right now. I just wish that soon we have a new post detailing how an inmate killed him, then I will be satisfied. To those doctors that knew of his sick ways, they too should be held accountable at the very least for covering it up, and not informing authorities.

Lewes, Delaware, ground zero for what is clearly emerging as one of the worst cases of child sexual abuse in American history. Former doctor, Earl Bradley, accused of raping 103 children at his Baybee`s pediatrics office. Prosecutors say they have 13 hours of videotape that Bradley made of himself sexually assaulting his young victims
According to the 471-count indictment, five girls, quote, "appeared to lose consciousness" during the alleged attacks. Forty-four of those counts relate to one child who prosecutors say was raped repeatedly over a 13- month period. Cops say then-Dr. Earl Bradley forced her to perform oral sex on him and essentially choked her. Why isn`t this attempted murder? And why didn`t somebody stop this depraved sicko a lot sooner?
Dr. Bradley`s history of sexual misconduct complaints dates back to -- anybody want to take a guess? 1994! Yet no arrests came until just a couple of months ago, this past December
    .
    Forty-eight victims last year alone
depravity appears to run in the sicko doctor`s family. Bradley`s uncle, a retired teacher with a doctorate, who is now dead, was convicted of lewd behavior and exposing himself to young girls back in 1992. He was reportedly accused once of asking a 4-year-old girl to perform oral sex on him. What is the family connection?
    There
`s a culture of secrecy in the medical community that failed all the patients, and it has to stop. A lot of doctors knew that there was something funny with this guy and broke the law by not going to the authorities. That has a lot of people angry.
Five years ago, his own sister reported suspicions about his behavior to the state medical society.

Two years ago, three parents accused him of inappropriate vaginal exams. An unnamed judge refused to issue a search warrant of the doctor`s office. Nobody will name this mystery judge. Why not? Who is this guy?

As investigators work to identify more than 100 children allegedly abused by a Delaware pediatrician, some families are struggling with whether to find out if their children are among the victims.

Authorities want parents of Dr. Earl Bradley's patients to provide photographs to compare with videos they claim Bradley used to document his sexual abuse.

Some parents have decided not to provide the photographs, saying their children seem fine and there's nothing to gain from finding out if they were abused.

But authorities say they have an obligation to help victims, and that children with no symptoms of abuse could have memories that surface later.

One expert says it's usually best to determine whether abuse has happened, but that parents shouldn't be coerced or pressured.

Dr. Earl Bradley's attorneys back out

Delaware crime: Dr. Earl Bradley's attorneys back out Private lawyers say 'no assets' available for defense

The two Wilmington attorneys hired by alleged pedophile pediatrician Earl B. Bradley to defend him against charges of raping or sexually abusing 103 patients have left the case, putting Bradley's defense in the hands of taxpayer-funded lawyers.
Gene Maurer said Wednesday that he and fellow private attorney Paul Kania cannot defend the Lewes doctor because Attorney General Beau Biden's office has filed court papers seeking to freeze Bradley's assets.
The charges against Bradley, 56, would rank him among the worst pedophiles in U.S. history. He stands accused of abusing 102 girls and one boy in examination rooms, a play area and an outbuilding being converted into a movie theater at his Disney-themed office on Coastal Highway.

The attacks, which police reports and a grand jury indictment say were filmed by Bradley, occurred from 1998 through December on victims as young as 3 months old. On tapes seized by police during raids on his office, police said, Bradley is seen forcing intercourse and oral sex on girls, sometimes barking orders at them. Five girls appeared to lose consciousness or stop breathing during the attacks, the February indictment said.
Ugh, the part about him barking orders at these poor girls makes me feel like I'm gonna vomit. I hope they are too young to remember, and that they (and their families) are able to heal mentally & physically.

As for Earl Bradley...he can DIAF x1,000,000. He will get his.

Del. Pediatrician was subject of 1996 complaint
LEWES — Officials at a Delaware hospital have revealed that they investigated a report in 1996 that pediatrician Dr. Earl Bradley inappropriately touched young girls.
    [...]
Beebe Medical Center officials tell The News Journal of Wilmington that they initially withheld facts about Bradley. They say they are revealing the 1996 complaint now because they can do so "without jeopardizing the criminal case."
A nurse reported in 1996 that she was concerned about the way Bradley obtained urine samples from young girls. The nurse asked why Bradley needed girls to undress before exams and about how he kissed and hugged patients.

The allegations against Lewes pediatrician Earl B. Bradley might be the most heinous in U.S. history, but he's far from the only pediatrician accused of being a pedophile.

In the past 10 years, dozens of doctors have been accused of abusing hundreds of children. Many of those cases took decades to uncover, and experts believe many other pedophiles are operating undetected.

Bradley's case stands out because of the depravity of his alleged crimes, said Dr. Eli Newberger, a professor at Harvard Medical School and a pediatrician who has studied child-abuse cases for almost 40 years. "It's the worst pediatrician abuse case I've ever heard of."

Some of Bradley's actions alleged by prosecutors -- videotaping himself forcing oral and vaginal sex on children as young as 3 months old -- were "incredibly traumatic" and violent, he said.

"The fact that the children tried to escape is an unassailable negative," said Newberger, who has agreed to testify in a civil case filed by families of Bradley's alleged victims.

"The fact that he caused children to lose consciousness during these acts -- these are profoundly hurtful acts, and frankly I've never heard of anything that's been so assiduously documented as it was here," Newberger said.

But Bradley's methods, as alleged by prosecutors, are not new in a profession offering steady access to children.

Experts said they follow a pattern established by numerous abusers: A methodical, cautious approach to securing victims often goes undetected or overlooked by parents and colleagues. Many abuse for decades. In a handful of cases -- including Bradley's -- hospitals have been accused of willfully ignoring warning signs, either for fear of litigation or out of simple denial that a physician could commit such acts, experts said.

"It's all the same dynamics as [abusive] priests," said Carla van Dam, a clinical psychologist in Seattle and author of "The Socially Skilled Child Molester."
