Jose Melton assults three officers and escapes hospital, funny pic

ROCKVILLE, Md. Montgomery County police say a man in custody at a Rockville hospital assaulted three officers and escaped.



Police spokesman Capt. Paul Starks says 23-year-old Jose Melton of Gaithersburg robbed a Rockville gas station Tuesday night and then crashed into a tree while fleeing officers.



Melton was initially taken to police headquarters, but Starks says he was taken to Shady Grove Adventist Hospital after intentionally banging his head.



Around 2 a.m. Wednesday, Starks says Melton assaulted the three officers guarding him and escaped.



Melton was found about three hours later at the Falls Grove Shopping Center across the street from the hospital and Starks says he was taken into custody without incident.



Police say Melton will be charged with armed robbery, three counts of second-degree assault and second-degree escape.
