Gwinnett County firefighters said the fire was reported at 10:29 a.m. at the Highland Walk Apartments on South Norcross-Tucker Road. Four units were destroyed, and the fire caused a roof to collapse.
Fire crews spent the afternoon searching for the 4-year-old child, who remained unaccounted for.
The child was inside the apartment when the fire broke out in the master bedroom. Police and the child's family tried to reach the boy, but were unable to reach him.
The child was later found inside a closet inside the apartment.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
I work in Norcross and pass this building everyday during my commute. So very sad.
