A 20-year-old man who told a child abuse unit detective, "I'm tired of beating up my own daughter, I need someone to help me," has been charged with beating his 3-month-old daughter.

Derrick Davis was in the Travis County Jail on Thursday with bail set at $100,000. He was charged with injury to a child, a first-degree felony, according to an affidavit.

A detective with the Travis County sheriff's office was called Tuesday to Dell Children's Medical Center to investigate a report of injuries to a child. Doctors found that the girl had been bruised and had a hemorrhage in her right eye, the affidavit said. An examination showed that the child's ribs had been fractured within the past two weeks, the affidavit said.

In an interview with the detective, Davis said that while alone with his daughter Monday, he snapped when she wouldn't stop crying. He said he slapped the child and slammed her head into a wall, the affidavit said.

Now all they have to do is add mandatory sterilization so that the s.o.b. doesn't get out of jail and create more kids he gets tired of beating on.

I'm actually feeling glad that this guy turned himself in, instead of eventually killing his daughter. He realized (albeit too late) that what he was doing was not the right way of handling things and took steps to prevent it from happening again. I wish more of the people we read about here would've had that kind of self-awareness.

EDIT: Oh, well... less kudos to him, since he wasn't the one to turn himself in, but kudos for accountability. I still wish more of the people we keep seeing in here would admit they need help.

I agree everhopeful. IF there were more SOB, baby beaters that just admitted to the violent behavior MAYBE more lives would be saved. When it comes to baby beaters, I'm grasping at anything that just might turn the tide. Meanwhile, I do hope his ass is beaten mercilessly as to give him a bit of the anguish he gave his daughter.
