SAN DIEGO - A former Westview High School assistant wrestling coach, already facing possible prison time for inappropriate sexual interaction with a teenage girl, was jailed Friday on suspicion of molesting another underage female student, authorities reported.
San Diego police arrested Ryan Paul Carnell, 28, while serving a search warrant at his Rancho Bernardo home this morning, SDPD Lt. Rick O'Hanlon said.
Carnell allegedly molested the teen, a student at the Torrey Highlands- area campus where he formerly worked, in an undisclosed off-campus location early this year. The San Diego Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force began investigating the purported offense in mid-November, O'Hanlon said.
In September, Carnell pleaded no contest to sending pornography to another underage female student. He is scheduled to be sentenced for that offense next week and was out on bail at the time of his arrest today. He faces a maximum of three years in prison, prosecutors said.
In the earlier case, Carnell sent a picture of his genitals to a 16-year- old Westview High student. During a preliminary hearing, the girl testified that she met Carnell when she was a freshman after becoming a statistician for Westview's wrestling team, and that the relationship turned a "lot more personal" her sophomore year.
She said she exchanged text messages with Carnell for up to 10 hours a day.
InFebruary and March, Carnell began texting her messages of a more sexualnature, leading up to one that included a photograph of his penis andthe message, "Don't be disappointed," according to the teenager'stestimony.
Carnell was arrested last spring after the girl's friend told a teacher about the message.
