Talking Donald Smith Jr,Joan Brewster,So Thankful they Brawl with family on Thanksgiving

    Donald Smith,Jr., 49

    Joan Brewster,54
HUDSON — Elizabeth Smith says she cooked the ham the night before and asked her father-in-law to wake her up on Thanksgiving morning so she could cook the rest. But when she woke up at 7 a.m., she said, Donald "Junior" Smith was already stuffing the turkey.
With celery. Elizabeth's husband, Tristan Smith, is allergic to celery. "It makes him sick," she said. She started crying. Junior yelled. Elizabeth's husband shouted at his dad for yelling at his wife.
"You're not going to step in my wife's face," Tristan hollered, according to Elizabeth.
    And then it was on.
The brawl moved into the bedroom, where Elizabeth and Tristan's 3-year-old son and 5-month-old daughter still slept. According to the Pasco County Sheriff's Office, Junior, 49, pushed his son. Elizabeth, 21, said Junior and her husband began fighting. A report says Tristan, 21, punched his dad. Elizabeth said she got in the middle of them to stop it.
Then Tristan's mom entered the scene. Joan Ethel Brewster, 54, grabbed Elizabeth by the hair and scratched her, a report says. "My face was bleeding," Elizabeth said. "She ripped my hair out."
    What's really funny is this:
In 1997, Joan and Tristan were featured in the St. Petersburg Times as a success story, detailing Tristan's attention deficit hyperactivity disorder and Joan's struggles to control her son. The article said Tristan, then in the third grade, punched holes in the walls and bullied a family puppy. Joan worked with Tristan's teachers and therapists.

"You can't expect your child to change if you won't change," she said in the story.
    Apparently nobody changed....

I have a huge family, somebody is always fussing, but we manage to keep ourselves decent and respectable during the holidays, in fact it's a general rule to forgive and forget by Halloween.....

It's not fair, my family is so boring. The most that has ever happened at my family get togethers is once I accidentaly put pumpkin pie spice in the stuffing and a cousin said it tasted funny and then I gave him a dirty look. If I want to see any kind of physical violence I have to turn on sports.

The only knockdown-dragouts at my family get togethers is when someone knocks the whipcream on the pie piece flat and it drags out to the edge of the plate when they take a bite. Yup pretty tame.

These people just need to stay away from each other. That's the only way to solve this.
If ya can't laugh at yourself...guarranteed someone else will.

This knock-down drag out started over CELERY, let me repeat that, CELERY being put in the turkey stuffing.......

I just love that word so much, and it perfectly fits the goings on in this story. I use it to describe all kinds of foolishness too. I think they should add it to the dictionary.

interesting, but kinda tame; just a little pushy-shovey. Thanksgivings past with my family of origin have featured: casseroles thrown across the dining room (3), hair-pulling cat-fights in the garden (2), drunken fist-fights (2), passed out drunks (5+), husbands bringing strange women to the house (1), mothers in hysterics (>12), siblings screaming obscenities at each other (1), chickens in the garden (2), police called (....i think i'll just stop here and slink off to contemplate the phrase "piss in the gene pool".

Wellllllll.... a little honesty is always appreciated at DD, right?

On Thanksgiving I ended up telling my (entertainment) lawyer friend that people like her are what's wrong with the world. Siiiiigh. Ye Olde Violent Television argument raised it's head... After cooking and cleaning and fetching all day by my lonesome I was more than ready to throw down.

Ehhhh, fuck it, right? I apologized a few minutes later. Then I poured another scotch.

I wish I could say I was above shitty holiday behavior, but we all still talk and laugh about the one year my sisters and I all got in a fight in the kitchen after dinner was over.
All I can say is, Jill ought not be such a bitch sometimes.

Our ages at the time were 23, 21 and 18, our ages now, 40, 38 and 35.

Why do some people treat their families worse than they would complete strangers?

With gatherings of 50+ being fairly common in my family, I still can not recall ever having anything more than an occasional and mild "lover's spat" occur at any event. Even in the middle of divorces, everyone comes together and behaves for a few days.

I don't know DV. I think it's because so many people take their family for granted. As for me and my friend...wellllll---

I'm just a model of bad behavior.

Does the Scotch make you speak, when usually you wouldn't talk about those things? If so, your friend should just appreciate the honesty, right or wrong! No name calling, right?

Oh no. I apologized to her again today and sent her the nice photos where I had taken the trouble of shopping out all of her zits.

    Her reply--

"No worries, I know how you are."

I even managed to just close out my email after reading that. I may actually be an adult after all!!!
