Jason Mattison Jr,15 Found gagged, raped, and murdered

I looked to see if this was already posted. I didnt see anything if it was im sorry.

It didn't happen often, but sometimes a student - usually a boy - would poke fun at Jason Mattison Jr.

About his skin-tight jeans and funky sweaters. About his boisterous voice that seemed to run nonstop. About his exuberance in recounting the most mundane of events. About his flamboyant mannerisms. He was 15, a sophomore in high school, and he was gay.

When someone harassed him in the halls of West Baltimore's Vivian T. Thomas Medical Arts Academy, he had a sharp, witty comeback at the ready, and he walked away smiling.

"Even if it hurt him, he gave the other person the impression he was stronger," recalled his English teacher, Ryan C. Jones.

But while Jason appeared strong and confident in the safe confines of his school on North Calhoun Street, unafraid to embrace his sexual orientation as part of his personality, the world outside did not offer those same protections.

Last week, at his aunt's house, one of the few occupied homes on a block boarded and sagging, he was found dead - raped, gagged with a pillowcase, stabbed repeatedly in the head and throat, and shoved into an upstairs closet. Jason's killing left his teachers, classmates and relatives in tears and family members asking questions of one another even in the days leading up to today's funeral.
Alot more story at the link. Its just to long to post. This is a very sad story. Rest in peace Jason.

    From 11/13/09

The man accused in the rape and fatal stabbing of a 15-year-old boy whose gagged body was found this week stuffed inside a closet of a relative's East Baltimore home has confessed to the killing after his arrest Thursday night, a police spokesman said.

Dante L. Parrish, 35, of no fixed addressed was taken Friday morning from police headquarters to Central Booking and Intake Center. Police said Parrish was arrested without incident about 10 p.m. at a 7-Eleven store at Moravia Road and Truesdale Avenue in Northeast Baltimore by members of the Regional Warrant Apprehension Task Force.

Parrish faces charges including first-degree murder, first-degree assault and first-degree sex offense in the death of Jason Madison Jr., whose body was discovered early Tuesday in the closet of his aunt's rowhouse in the 2400 block of Llewelyn Ave., according to police. He was being held without bail.

Police said the boy had been repeatedly stabbed in the head and throat with a box cutter found in the house. Police described Parrish as a friend of those who lived in the Llewelyn Avenue house and became a suspect shortly after the boy's body was found.

About 3 a.m. Tuesday, police were at the house investigating a burglary. After they left, a resident of the house noticed blood in her mother's second-floor bedroom and called police after realizing the boy was missing. Officers returned and found the body in a closet.

The teen was visiting relatives when he was killed, police said. It was not known how long Parrish had been in the house before the boy was killed.

Court records show Parrish was convicted in 2000 for a 1999 murder and served 10 years of a 30-year sentence. He won a new trial when a judge deemed his legal counsel had been "ineffective." In January, the state's attorney's office offered Parrish a plea deal that amounted to time served, and he was released, according to the city prosecutor's office.

SOOOOO sad! A life taken so young - SOOO viciously - that poor child. I feel just awful awful for him, for his suffering and for those who loved him - by the article there were alot of people who loved and cared for him.

So this Monster clearly didn't learn a damn thing, he should be put down before he hurts anyone else!

This one is bothering me and I can usally seperate myself from cases. He was so happy you can see it on all the pictures there are of him. His smile seems like the type that would light up a room. What happened to him was so violent on so many levels. This boy was tourtured and a house full of people didnt hear a thing? I call bullshit on that one. They all knew and did nothing until it was to late.

A letter from Jason's english teacher. Its sweet and heartfelt.
    Hi friends and family,
I am writing you this in hope you can do me a large favor. As some of you know, I lost someone very close to me this week. A student of mine was taken from us in a violent manner. His name was Jason Mattison and he was a 15-year old student, whom I have had the privilege to teach through his 9th and 10th-grade years, since he arrived on our campus during the summer of 2008.

There has been extensive news coverage of Jason’s death over the past few days. He was brutally attacked, abused, fatally injured and left for dead. His attacker, a 35-year old previously convicted murderer, has been arrested, and will meet his doom in one way or another.
However, I am writing because not enough positive things have been shown about Jason. As is often the case, the majority of news has revolved around the graphic nature of his death and the circumstances relating to his attacker. Too often, we hear news that a young, black male from Baltimore City was killed and we think nothing of it.

Jason was not just another statistic! He was a lively, unique individual who brought smiles to the faces of countless people every day. Jason was an above-average student, who excelled in many areas of academics and social life. He dreamed of finishing his career here and moving on to college, medical school and then to his own pediatric office. God, how kids would have loved his big smile and booming voice! You need to simply look at his exotic dress, flare for the dramatic in class and with friends and talk to those who knew him to understand what a loss we have all been dealt.

Jason was in no way involved with gangs, drugs or weapons. He spent his time after school doing homework in teachers’ classrooms and hanging out with friends. His nightly routine of chatting on MySpace is the same one any of our kids have, and the same one as kids all across America. But for as “typical” as Jason seemed, he was so unique. He hated normal! He was different because he could be. He wore his skinny jeans and fashionable sweaters and blazers because it made him stand out.

I’ve included a few pictures of Jason as a way to expose what a great child he was, and to allow those who didn’t know him to see more than the news coverage allows. In my eyes, this tragedy has focused so much on the negative and what is truly being lost is what a great child we had the pleasure of being around. It hurts me to watch the news and see a murderer’s face and story being told and not that of Jason!!!!!

Please do me a favor and honor Jason! I am asking that you simply forward this e-mail and pictures to everyone you know. I want Jason’s story to be told and I want everyone to see that we have lost an innocent child! And maybe more importantly, I want everyone to see how beautifully wonderful this child was!!!

I agree--I realize that pictures are not at all reliable all the time, but there are some people who just truly shine through in any medium with a personality, and I believe Jason's pics show someone I'd be happy to know, who just generally makes those around him happy.

His killer is another example of a system too hellbent on giving criminals rights to rehabilitation and sacrificing their past, current, and future victims to achieve this. Stupidity is supposed to be defined by doing an action in the exact same way again and again, but expecting a different result. Well, guess what? I think it's safe to say now that releasing violent criminals after a short cushy stay for rehab/counseling/tickle-and-play does not help crime.

I am so sorry that Jason is now a victim of not only the man who brutally killed him, but of the system who allowed that man freedom to do so. I hope that some law maker is able to learn from Jason's death, and something starts to change. :(

That was a gorgeous letter from his teacher too.

I wish the community could see the crime for what it was. A violent man taking advantage of a young boy and hurting him in all the worst ways possible. But from all the comments im reading on the news sites people are going right at the "gay black male" hate crime nonsence. This wasnt a crime commited because he was gay. It was a crime that was commited because his killer is a violent man with a violent past who took advantage of this child.

This is so sad. I knew from the first second that I looked at his picture that he was gay and I was hoping he wasn't killed for that very reason.

I'm not surprised. Hate crime is a "sexy" crime lately, and it pisses me off.

All crime is commited by hatred. I realize that it really sucks that some people are stupid and ignorant enough to harm or kill people just because they're different in some way, and that it's really bad that at any point a person could be attacked for no reason other than the color of their skin, who they're sleeping with, or what religion they follow. That is all depressing and I'm not denying that it happens.

However, how is the toddler who is beaten to death by his same-race parent any less "innocent" or helpless than a person beaten to death because they're gay or black or white or jackass? How is the woman shot to death simply because she works at a gas station that someone chose to rob any less worthy of outrage than the drag queen who is shot to death by some homophobe? And how is the kidnap victim who is kidnapped and raped simply because her rapist likes blondes any more worthy of outrage than the woman who is raped in hatred because she's black?

I hate to give a crime a special sentence or attention or feel like I'm supposed to fight harder for one victim's rights over another when ALL victims deserve justice.

I have always felt that to single out any one trait or demographic for special or preferential treatment is just as racist/prejudiced as deciding a demographic is less worthy. Affirmative action sucks, and so does it's sister in justice, the hate crime. Everyone should be judged for their abilities and actions regardless of their origins and personal life, just as everyone should be equally protected and justice done equally for all victims.

I agree. Any crime is a hate crime. I just dont think they know what to name a bias crime. My beef is that they are making what happend to Jason a hate crime. Bringing up that he was gay is important as it might explain why he was at his aunts. Trying to get away from an upset mom? Who knows the only person who would tell the truth is now gone.

It seems that Jason really had a great reputation also. I hope that since he was so well-known, and so respected by at least his teachers and probably many of his peers, this story will get the attention it deserves to maybe make the changes necessary.

You're right about the hate crime stuff potentially clouding the true issue here. I bet this guy would have raped and murdered anyone at that time, he had a history and has proven himself to be twisted. I hope that they can address the true cost of this crime, and apply that to making the world a little safer by NOT repeating the same mistake.

I hope they hold Jason up as an example of a beautiful and strong human being--perhaps his sexual preference did build that strength, but just like with anyone, his sexual preference is not what was lost to the world here, it was a person, whole and complete. I don't want to see them make this about a gay boy targeted for his sexuality, but what I do think it is, no matter what the motive was in the insane ass who killed him--because the issue is that we have all lost someone who seemed very bright, who would have probably made major differences in many lives and areas, all because someone decided that the original victim of this murderer was perfectly evened out with a few years of "rehab."

Jason should have never been murdered by this man. A hate crime focus tends to shift the eye toward how sad it is that we're not safe based on our personal lives, but in this case, we should be outraged that we're unsafe based on our laws allowing murderers to kill again and again from misguided efforts to be fair and show how progressive we are.

Fuck a Duck!!! This is a prime example of why repeat offenders should not receive early releases from the prison systems. Ten years for a murder? Really??????
    Lord this pisses me off!!!!!!!
Hopefully this POS will remain behind bars for the remainder of his unnatural life.
One bright spot.....when he's in jail he will get what's coming to him for murdering a child....

    RIP Jason....

I don't get how this animal could do what he did to Jason, and no one heard a damn thing...That not only sounds strange, but it's almost laughable. I hear everything that goes on under my roof. It makes no sense....

Another bright light goes dim...Rest in peace Jason

yeah, it is curious. And the article stressed that the house was the only occupied house on the street?

The whole situation seems to have a lot of layers. For one thing, what burglary? Could Jason have been alone, and his killer burglarized the home after killing him, or Jason maybe interrupted the burglary? And then it may make sense--if this occurred when they were out, came home and called police when they saw they'd been robbed, I can see that occurring for the chain of events. However, it's still somewhat odd. "Realizing the boy was missing..." is another odd statement. I don't think that they had anything to do with it, but that it was maybe a rough environment. Also, since the guy had been staying there with permission, I wonder if they knew of his record.

Scribble I read somewhere in those links, that this beast had a forced sexual relationship with this boy. Another thing is that the paternal grandmother, Wanda Williams, implied that the family was not too keen on Jason being gay. Either way, something is just not right with this story.

I see his bright smile and my heart aches.

The family surely must have known about his criminal background. One cousin stated that he was a "longtime family friend"...

Baltimore City is a fucking hell hole. I dont care who negative reps me for that either. The inner city is full of vacant row homes where maybe one or two on a street is not condemed. Look up "The Wire". Its a pretty accurate portral of Baltimore City and is shot in Baltimore. Those places are ripe with criminals.

Its noted more then once that the crime was tried to be covered up. Someone knew what was going on. The bastard who killed him was more then likely banging someone who was staying there and raping Jason because he could. Jason more then likely decided he wasnt going to be a victim anymore and thats when he was brutally murdered. There is no way that no one heard him being stabbed to death. Gagged or not he would have fought.

Moonlilly that is what I am thinking. Someone knew, someone heard, they just didn't give a fuck. They didn't care cause if someone broke into my home, stoled a television set. I would do more than just call the cops. Wouldn't you walk around your home trying to see if anything else was taken? Go to the bedrooms and look around? I would check for my family, for my property. Not roll over and go to bed.

I also wonder whether or not the burglary was actually committed somewhere else, and the police were investigating that house because one or more of the residents were the suspects.

From what I read the family reported the house was broken into and a tv was stolen. I have a feeling they were going to try to say that Jason was killed during the break in.

Over flowing crowd mourns the loss of Jason

An overflow crowd spilled out of the sanctuary and into the vestibule of a West Baltimore church Wednesday morning for the funeral of Jason Mattison Jr., a 15-year-old killed last week in a brutal attack.

The principal at Jason's school announced a scholarship fund set up in his name. Friends and family recalled stories involving the rambunctious teenager, who had dreams of becoming a pediatrician. And the reverend of the church told hundreds of mourners that the boy's death should serve as a warning to the downtrodden neighborhood where it happened to closely watch all kids.

Several students from Jason's school, Vivien T. Thomas Medical Arts Academy, attended the 90-minute service held at Unity United Methodist Church on Edmondson Avenue, some of the teens becoming so overcome with emotion that they stepped outside.

"No one is truly gone if you carry them in your heart," Principal Starletta Jackson said. "And Jason is a part of our heart. We all knew that Jason wanted to be a pediatrician. There was never a question of whether or not he was going to make it. Some children we have to pray over a lot -- pray for grades that they pass, but we never worried about that with Jason."

Jason was killed at his aunt's house on Llewellyn Avenue in East Baltimore -- raped, gagged with a pillowcase, stabbed repeatedly in the head and throat and shoved into an upstairs closet. Police say a family friend, Dante Parrish, who had previously spent 10 years in prison after pleading guilty to second-degree murder in 1999, admitted to killing Jason. Parrish is being held without bail.

But the circumstances surrounding Jason's death remained in the background Wednesday as mourners recalled Jason for his sharp, dry wit, chic clothes and uplifting demeanor.

"We will miss you Jason but know that your memory will never be lost," Jackson said.

Rest in peace now Jason. Know that you were loved in life by many and have touched the hearts of people that never knew you in life.

Suspect in teen's rape, fatal stabbing pleads not guilty
    http://www.baltimoresun.com/news/mar...,3098873.story
Dante Parrish, 35, pleaded not guilty Friday to murder and sexual offense charges connected with the Nov. 10 rape and stabbing of 15-year-old Jason Mattison Jr., a sophomore at West Baltimore's Vivian T. Thomas Medical Arts Academy. A Baltimore grand jury indicted Parrish last month. He was released early from prison last January after winning a new trial on a separate murder charge. The boy's body was found in his aunt's second-floor closet; he was gagged with a pillowcase and had been stabbed repeatedly in the head and throat. Parrish is being held at the Baltimore City Detention Center without bail. His trial has been set for April 14. - Tricia Bishop
This case broke my heart - I'll be waiting for April 14 with bells on, Dante better go down forever.

Frankly, it's stories like this that make me wish the gay community wasn't as fragmented as it is, not to mention racist.

I may be a white gay man, but I've seen how non-white gay men are treated. Equality has a long way to go.
