SUMTER COUNTY, Fla. -- Eyewitness News is working to get more information as to what may have sparked a shooting and standoff in a Sumter County home.
Deputies say Denise Textor shot her husband and then refused to come out of their home in The Villages of Kelly Ridge for nearly four hours Thursday night.
What deputies tried to do for hours, a family friend was able to accomplish in about ten minutes.
He dialed Textor up on the telephone and told her, in so many words,
"this needs to end." After she hung up the phone she surrendered peacefully to deputies.
During the bizarre incident, deputies waited for hours outside Denise Textor's house in The Villages retirement community.
Investigators say she shot her husband and then barricaded herself inside the home.
"It's a friendly village, that's why we moved here, and we're shocked," said Loretta McNeel, neighbor.
Textor's husband called 911 from a neighbor's house and was rushed to Orlando Regional Medical Center while more than 30 law enforcement officers, a SWAT Crew and armored trucks tried to get her out of the house.
They tried unsuccessfully for hours until a family friend talked her into surrendering.
"He told her on the phone that she needed to come on out and end this. And she was afraid of course," said Jack Jordan, Sumter County Sheriff's Office.
Textor apologized and allowed herself to be arrested peacefully.
Deputies will search the house Friday for evidence while neighbors look for answers of their own.
"It makes me sick to my stomach that that could have happened, because they're older people, retired people. You know, at time when you're relaxing and enjoying your life," said Gloria Nolan, neighbor.
Textor will make her first appearance in court Friday morning. She will face charges of first-degree attempted murder.
