A 56-year-old Volusia County man was arrested this week and accused of performing a sex act on a 7-year-old girl, South Daytona police said today.

Ronald Clark Thornton was arrested Tuesday at his Port Orange home on a charge of sexual battery on a person younger than 12, police said.

South Daytona police were called to a home on Lantern Drive on Saturday after Thornton's son called police.

The son, whose name was not released, said his daughter's 7-year-old friend said Thornton performed a sex act on her while the two were in the bathroom together, according to a report from South Daytona Police.

Thornton was booked into the Volusia County Branch Jail with no bond.

SOUTH DAYTONA, Fla. -- A Department of Children and Families employee has been arrested on charges that he molested a 7-year-old girl.
Detectives said Ronald Clark Thornton molested the girl while he was staying at his son's home in South Daytona.
According to the police report, Thornton's 7-year-old granddaughter had a friend over to spend the night. His son noticed the girl go into the bathroom and close the door quickly behind her. When he asked her what she was doing, he heard his father, Thornton, reply they would be out in a minute.
When Thornton left, his son asked his daughter's friend what happened. She initially said nothing happened, but then asked if he could keep a secret and told him Thornton took her into the bathroom and made her hold his penis while he put his finger in her vagina.
Thornton works for DCF as a processor in the food stamp division. He was charged with sexual battery on a child under the age of 12.

ABSOLUTELY DISGUSTING POS! When I read what he actually did to her - I wanted to vomit -the image in conjurs up makes me "shiver" - one thing I can say - BRAVO to the son who did NOT cover up for his father and say nothing - Bravo for stepping up and artting his sorry ass out. Too many people keep their mouths shut because they don't want to get a "loved one" in trouble - too many people turn a blind eye..

What a piece of shit. I don't want to blame the son because he doesn't deserve any blame at all...BUT, your father is in the bathroom with a 7 year old guest and you don't bust in on that shit??? I'd kick the fucking door in if he told me that he'd be out in a minute. Thank goodness he told the truth and didn't cover for his POS dad like those guys in Missouri!

the kid is probably only 7 or 8 himself.....he did the right thing

Sorry. I thought I read the story stating that it was the son's daughter that had a friend over and the friend was the one molested. I figured the son would have to be an pseudo-adult if he already had a daughter. Thanks for the correction.
