Kathleen Prisco
An attorney for the Fort Salonga woman charged with stabbing her husband to death will Monday ask a Suffolk judge for a psychiatric exam to determine her fitness to stand trial, the Garden City lawyer said Sunday.
As the defense attorney, Thomas F. Liotti, prepared Sunday night to meet relatives of Kathleen Prisco in the home where prosecutors say she killed her husband, Ralph Prisco, 54, Liotti said he would seek to defer a decision on bail. Prisco is due to appear Monday at Suffolk District Court for a bail hearing.
"I'm going to ask that she be removed to a hospital," said Liotti, who had been unable to meet with Kathleen Prisco since taking on the case earlier Sunday. Liotti said he'd also request that a psychologist retained by the defense attend any evaluations.
Prisco was put on suicide watch at the Riverhead jail after prosecutors charged her with second-degree murder. They say she knifed her husband more than 12 times in an attack that began in the master bedroom Friday.http://www.newsday.com/long-island/s...ying-1.1560081The Prisco family had been expected to attend a ball in Holbrook that evening to benefit the nonprofit AHRC Suffolk, which assists about 2,500 people with developmental disabilities.
Ralph Prisco, a lawyer, had helped plan the event and bought a banquet table of 10 seats, said AHRC president Fred Salzberg. "We just received notice that they would not attend, but really had no idea what had occurred," he said. "We were pretty shocked."
