State Police have charged two adults with child endangerment for forcing a toddler to smoke marijuana. Police were alerted when
an eye-witness gave them cell phone photos of the alleged event.
Kristin Brewster, 18, and
George Lavare Jr., 22, are charged with child endangerment and marijuana possession. Police say
they forced Brewster’s two-year old son to inhale pot.
Our news partner, WSYR-Syracause, reports that the witness, Destiny Haust, took pictures of what was happening, as proof. The photos allegedly show the suspects getting high, holding a pot pipe up to the toddler's mouth, and blowing smoke directly into his mouth.
“First George packed the pipe and put it to [the child's] mouth and he smoked it. The baby actually inhaled it and smoke came out of his mouth. He started crying,” said Destiny Haust when she recounted what happened on Sunday inside her mobile home.
Haust says Kristin then inhaled, and did what's called “shotgunning,” holding the toddler's head and blowing marijuana smoke into it.
Haust says
she couldn't believe what was happening, and took pictures with her cell phone as proof.
“She's like: '
don't you get high with your kids?’ My 4 and 3 year olds? What are you crazy? 'She's like:
you get them high and they sleep all day,’” Haust said.
Haust made excuses and went to file a report with state police. She also told the park manager, Robin Teneyck.
“Ever since Kristin got here it's been a nightmare in that house,” Teneyck said.
Robin printed the pictures for investigators. “I was devastated to see what they’re doing with this child still in diapers!” she said.
Haust says
Brewster taught her toddler to call marijuana "baby," so he doesn't call it weed or marijuana.
“I know for a fact that I did the right thing. Whether someone else thinks I did the right thing, I saved a kids life and I know they're both in a safe place right now,” Haust said.
