Eunice police are investigating a badly decomposed body that was found under a house on East Vine Street on Sunday afternoon.
Police Chief Gary Fontenot said Monday there is no reason to believe a crime has been committed, but police aren't ruling anything out at this point.
"We are waiting to see what the coroner has to say," Fontenot said. "
A 43-year-old found under a house is weird, but the body showed no obvious signs of foul play. The investigation is certainly not over."
The gruesome discovery occurred about 3 p.m. Sunday under the home of Cory Hannon, which he shares with his wife and children.
He said the smell first became noticeable on Friday and by Sunday afternoon it was very strong.
Hannon said he originally believed a dog or some other animal had crawled up under the house and died.
But when a child, sent under the house to retrieve the animal, came out with a man's shoe instead, he immediately knew something was seriously wrong and called police.
Police have identified the body as that of Duan Andrus, 43, of Eunice, who lived just a few blocks away.
Andrus was last seen by family members on Wednesday and he was officially reported as missing on Friday.
