Marshall Chunn kills his baby while teaching her to walk

FLORISSANT, Mo. (AP) -- A suburban St. Louis father is accused of killing his 14-month-old daughter by shaking her severely while he was teaching her to walk.

Marshall Chunn, 28, of Florissant was charged with second-degree murder and child abuse resulting in death. The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported Monday that Chunn was arraigned Friday in St. Louis County Circuit Court.

Chunn allegedly became enraged as he was trying to teach his daughter, Lyric, to walk while at home. Police said he shook the child and threw her against a floor or wall. Chunn took his daughter to the hospital, where she died Sept. 27.

He was held on $250,000 bond. He did not yet have an attorney in electronic court records to call for comment.

I know :( My baby just turned 1 yesterday and I've been videotaping her trying to walk :( Poor Lyric!!

I don't get it at all! Was he trying to force the child to walk when the child wasn't ready yet...maybe he felt the child should be walking already and was mad that she wasn't? Forcing a child to walk before she's ready will only make it harder, just like potty training, you just have to let nature take it's course. Not saying you shouldn't offer support and help, but don't force it.

Babies walk when they will walk. They don't need pushy, dumbass, stupid, mean father's helping the process. All he succeeded in doing is killing her. Killing his baby over walking. Now that is one for the records. Try to explain that one down in prison. I hope his legs are broken and never function properly again, having to crawl towards his meals and daily functions. Hell, just rot in prison.

Rest in peace baby Lyric, you seemed sad in this picture. It infuriates me there will be no more pictures past 14 mo. Fly in the heavens little one.
