The police had already been to a Tulsa residence once yesterday evening on a domestic disturbance call, after an argument between the resident and his ex-girlfriend. When they had arrived, the female involved (said to be in her 20s, and unnamed as of yet) had already left the scene.
Later that evening, she returned with a hammer.
The man reported hearing a banging noise on his house. When "rap rap rapping on his chamber door" wasn't enough, the ex girlfriend threw the hammer through his window. Thinking his house was being broken into, the man picked up his rifle full of bird shot and discharged two loads through the broken window.

Police stopped the vehicle nearby, Hughes said, and the woman was then taken by ambulance to the hospital.
Another woman was in the SUV with her, and two children and another woman were in the house when the shots were fired, Hughes said.
