A magistrate judge approved the temporary release for Randy Barker. Barker left the Van Buren County Jail at 1 p.m.
Magistrate Judge Benny Waggoner said that he has "never done anything like this before," referring to the temporary release.
Barker is serving a 10-day jail sentence for interference with official acts and violation of a protective order.
Barker will attend the Red Sox game in Kansas City with his father and brother. Barker's father, Norman, said Wednesday that the family had been planning the trip for 3 months and they haven't been able to attend a game in 25 years.
Waggoner said Barker’s request was approved “as a special consideration for the family."
Barker left Keosauqua at 1 p.m. Wednesday and will return late Wednesday night or early Thursday morning.
The other family involved in this case said they only learned of the temporary release from reading the local newspaper. Lance Morris said Barker has repeatedly harassed his family, including calling his mother more than 60 times in one night.
Morris called the temporary release "special treatment" and said he was surprised by the decision.
