I don't get it. :( What's the purpose of this thread? And, we're referring to our "Angel", no?
Patience is not my strongsuit. :p

Give her time. In 16,000 years nobody else has been able to do it. Let's give her at least a week.

Angel, my impish prayers are with you.
My dad nearly invoked the DD from the pulpit on Sunday, so i figure it's only fair for DD to invoke the Almighty from time to time.

Damn, I was coming here hoping to read a religion debate. It's empty! :(

Yes, Athena, it's me. I'm not quite sure exactly what I've gotten myself into here, but it should be fun nonetheless. Swivel promises to be a formidable adversary.
I think it only fair to inform you though, Swivel, that my hubby started Seminary about a year ago, and is planning to be a Chaplain in the army. Also, his father was a preacher, and my father is an ordained minister, as well (I think he got his ordination from one of those places where if you pay 'em enough, they'll ordain you as a flying jack-in-the-box, just to be completely honest). But hubby's father preached at the Church of God for 30 or so years, and I was raised in the Bible belt, and am quite familiar with the theology of it, myself.
However, I am not exactly sure what you mean when you say "Give her at least a week". Since I have never undertaken the task of TRYING to prove the existence of God, I am at a bit of a disadvantage in that area as well. Do you intend to ask questions for me to answer? Or will we each give our respective views on the side we support, and then discuss the differences between them? I have always believed in God, and so never had the opportunity to 'prove' my belief before.
Throw me a bone to chew on to get me started in the right direction, please.![]()

He is messing with you as it is impossible to prove God exists. Even if you believe that he does. All arguments will always boil down, after lengthy posts, to your faith. Your knowledge, or your family member's knowledge, of theology or the Bible have nothing to do with being able to prove God exists.
But that isn't to say it wont be interesting to see you try. :D

Oh. I mentioned my disproof of god and you said you looked forward to proving god to me, so I thought you had it formulated already. My misunderstanding.
Perhaps we should start with a few questions, so I know which god we are talking about:
1. Has your god always been around (i.e. is your god eternal in both directions)?
2. Did your god create the universe and everything in it?
3. Is your god capable of thought, of reasoning, of thinking, in some form even if it differs from our own?
I am impressed with your religious pedigree, but I have to warn you, I spent the first 20 or so thinking years of my life devoted to the exploration of religion with a large focus on Christianity. I've read the Bible cover-to-cover and have yet to meet a Christian that knows more about their own religion than I do. So, consider yourself warned.

Where's Herb Dean? I think we need a professional on hand to referee this one. @_@

Now, now.....I have faith in Angel.![]()
One thing I will wager on is that no matter what is said Angel wont be run off. Nope, I think I know her well enough to say if she ever left it would be because she wanted to and she would slam the door on her exit so loud I would hear it in Canada.
:go:

I agree. Angel isn't going anywhere. I'm not that powerful.
Let's give Angel the benefit of the doubt. She might have many new things to offer. I would much prefer the audience taking her side on every single issue. Give her some support, people.

It is also impossible to prove that He doesn't exist. So, I have at least as much chance at proving my case as Swivel has in proving his. However, you may be right - it all eventually boils down to faith, so I may have opened my mouth and inserted my foot all the way to the knee joint. It'll be fun seeing where this goes, anyway.
And, Morbid, enjoy your popcorn.....
And thanks for the support, Impy!:D
1. Yes, God is eternal, and omniscient.
2. Yes, He did.
3. Yes, He is.
And the pedigree is not mine, I only mentioned the amalgamation of the combined pedigrees of those I know. I've read the Bible, too, more than once. And spent the last year editing hubby's papers for Seminary classes. Not that that will help me now, but at least I have a fighting chance, huh?
Let the games begin! :p

Cool. That really is all I need to know. You believe in a god that can not possibly exist. Your answers create a paradox, and paradoxes are immune to miracle. But I don't want to jump right to disproving your god, I would rather know some more about him/her.
Which brings up the next question...
4. ...does your god have a gender?
5. Does your god know the future completely?
6. Do you believe everything in the Bible to be true?

Thanks, Swivel, but I only want them to support me if they think I'm right. I'm a big girl, and my feelings don't get hurt that easily. Sweet of you though. Again, are you sure you're Swivel? Swivel is usually much more, shall we say, direct? Or is that just for the faceless masses who lurk here? :ange:
Lol, yeah, its like trying to prove ghosts exist. There will be people that will "draw from personal experiences" that swear by it, and claim thats the only proof they need. There will some that go by EVPs, video, whatever, but ultimately, there isn't any PROOF that ghosts exist, just like there isn't any proof that they don't.
THis is why these arguments ultimately end nasty. Fun times.

I will answer your questions, and pose a few of my own, if that's OK.
4. The Bible refers to God as a He.
5. Yes.
6. Yes.
My questions:
1. Explain your statement that based on the answers I gave to your questions, my God cannot exist.
2. What paradox has been created?
3. How is a paradox immune to miracle? That statement confuses me.
Sorry my questions are not yes/no as yours have been....
