Ross Township police arrested the newborn's father and uncle, who were shopping at about 5 p.m. Authorities also impounded the car.
"
The child was 4 months old and had been left in the car for approximately an hour," Ross Township police Sgt. Ben Dripps said.
Paramedics checked the baby at the scene as a precaution, and officials said the baby was in good condition.
According to police reports, officers asked Jordan Carr, 25, why he left his son in the car, and he said Carr told officers, "
he forgot." Police also arrested the boy's uncle, Ethan Parry, 19.
"Did you know the baby was left in the car?" WTAE Channel 4's Tara Edwards asked Carr.
"
I'm not going to talk to you guys," he said.
The child's mother, who arrived after police were called, was not involved and will not face charges, police said. Pennsylvania Children and Youth Service officials interviewed the child's mother at the Ross Township police station.
Both Carr and Parry were taken to the Allegheny County Jail on charges of leaving an unattended child in a motor vehicle and endangering the welfare of children.
The family is said to be from Utah.
