Bank insists on thumbprint from Steve Valdez inorder to cash check. (Man has no arms)

    Steve Valdez

Fucking BOA, there really blow big time, rotten bastards.

Tampa, Florida -- While most banks require a thumbprint to cash a check from someone who doesn't have an account, a Tampa man says that policy was impossible to comply with.

Steve Valdez says he was shocked when he was told he had to put his thumbprint on a check written on his wife's Bank of America check. Valdez says the check was written to him with the same address he has on his driver's license. Although he had two forms of identification both with pictures, the bank still required Valdez to give a thumbprint before it would cash the check.

But that was impossible, because Valdez was born without arms and wears prosthetic devices.

According to Valdez, when he gave the teller the check, she said "Obviously you can't give a thumbprint." But Valdez says the manager refused to cash the check unless he did.

When Valdez told the manager giving a thumbprint would be impossible, she suggested he either bring in his wife or open an account. Valdez says that's not the way the bank would treat someone without prosthetic arms, and he refused.

Valdez says he asked the bank if it had ever heard of the American with Disabilities Act and he says they told him they were accommodating him by offering the choices. But the ADA says businesses must comply with basic nondiscrimination requirements that prohibit exclusion, segregation, and unequal treatment.

A spokesman for Bank of America says while the thumbprint is a requirement for those who don't have accounts, the bank should have made accommodations.

I would've offered them a Big Toe Print and told them to call it a fingerprint ... but that's just me.

And I agree with you, yet again, Immortal One.

I have a BOA account and you are right they suck. But then all the banks I have ever dealt with suck in one way or another. This manager takes the cake, tho.

Big toe print or a boot up the arse!! What do you think?

That's close to the dumbest thing I have ever heard.
That guy is close to being a bank owner.
I think there must be more to the story cuz anyone can see that is impossible.

Well... I would have offered them a print of my ass!!! ALL OF IT! What a rotten abuse of power that the bank manager displayed. There was no reason for this at all. This one bothers the hell out of me... and BOA just bought my mortgage so I am stuck with them for now. Ugh!

They could have photo copied his DL and been good with that and a phone number for God's Sake!

What will we have to give banks next, a dna swab???? Fucking Bullshit, really!

I bet whoever prepares the policy at the Bank of America, that they will have something in place to address this in the future.

hmm, maybe BOA could make a prosthetic thumb and he could wear it around his neck.

or they could fire that asshat manager and she can go work at burger king and refuse service to babies.

Yep, there are exceptions to every rule and a good manager know one when she sees one. When something just feels wrong to do it is wrong. Would she insist a person in a wheelchair stand up to the window so she could see them better?...Just crazy!!

I was going to post this Tazzzz, was out most this weekend and came across it.

Talk about a sure fire way to get a disability issue up in "arms", no pun intended. I hope this puts quick action in taking care of more needs for people with disabilities instead of making them out to be weird or just shit out of luck. Now that teller, well having shit for brains, hell, she is just shit out of luck, trying to fix stupid is no easy task!
