Leanne Casolaro put her 8-year old out and drove off

A Richmond mother was charged yesterday with leaving her 8-year-old son on the side of the road after arguing with him about his performance in a BMX bicycle race, state police said.

Leanne Denise Casolaro, 38, was charged with felony child neglect and reckless driving. The latter charge stems from a wreck she allegedly caused while looking for her child after initially abandoning him.

The incident occurred about 4 p.m. Sunday, after the woman's son performed in a BMX race earlier that day at the Virginia Motorsports Park, said Sgt. Thomas Molnar, a police spokesman.

While returning from the event, Casolaro started arguing with her son about his performance, forced him from the car and drove away. Nearby witnesses saw the incident and temporarily took custody of the child while calling police, Molnar said.

Casolaro soon returned to the scene to find her son but could not locate him. While attempting to make a U-turn during her search, she collided with another vehicle, Molnar said. No one was hurt.

It happened in the 7000 block of Boydton Plank Road, less than a mile away from where Virginia State Police investigated a fatal accident the day before.

That's not to far from me, next county over. Glad the witness took him and called police. Good for them.

How stupid!!! What if the witnesses who took custody of the boy turned out to be pedophiles or worse... Thank goodness they were good people.

As for her seriously GROW THE HELL UP! How dare her make her son feel this way! My son just turned 8 today and let me tell you no matter what happens I encourage him not belittle him.

A Richmond woman who left her 8-year-old son on the side of a Dinwiddie County road after arguing with him about his performance in a bicycle race was convicted yesterday of contributing to his delinquency and given a 12-month suspended jail term.

Leanne Denise Casolaro, 38, pleaded guilty to the misdemeanor charge, reduced from felony child neglect, in Dinwiddie Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Court. A judge sentenced her to 12 months in jail but suspended the entire term.

She also was ordered to submit written reports every 90 days about her progress while undergoing a year's mental-health counseling, which she has begun, said Dinwiddie Commonwealth's Attorney Lisa Caruso.

The Dinwiddie Department of Social Services will check on her over the next seven years, Caruso said. Casolaro had no prior criminal record, Caruso added.

A charge of reckless driving was dismissed after Casolaro made restitution for damage in a wreck she caused while looking for her son after abandoning him.

wow really? how bad could the kid have sucked? I admit I have had fantasies about putting my highly demanding now 9 year old daughter out of my car, but only because dammit it's hard to concentrate when shes screaming at the top of her lungs kicking the back of my seat and banging her head on the side window....very ADHD.....and there is no fucking place to pull over....but omg to actually fucking do it? jesus.
