Perhaps he thought it was the edge of a pond and had simply wandered down to have a drink.
Or maybe he just fancied practicing his tricks.
But whatever the reason for him being there this bear ended up well and truly stuck when it clambered down into the bowl of this sunken skateboard park in the U.S.
The bowl's smooth sides and curved edges, which are used by skateboarders to perform tricks at speed, meant that the bear was unable to clamber out to safety.
After spending the night stranded at the bottom park officials decided to lower a ladder so he could escape.
The bear was discovered Tuesday morning in the Colorado resort town of Snowmass.
Workers from the Parks and Recreation Department lowered a long ladder - presumably before running off to a safe distance - which the bear nimbly climbed and wandered away unharmed.
