9mth old baby Mia left unattended in the bath. Drowned.

    http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/arti...-computer.html

A nine-month-old baby drowned in the bath after her mother left her unattended while she made a birthday card, an inquest heard yesterday.

Mia Moroz Foster toppled out of a bath seat and was found face-down in the water by her horrified mother Elwira Moroz.

She had been left alone in the bathroom while Elwira, 32, worked on a birthday card for Mia's father, Nigel Foster, on the computer in a bedroom next door.

The inquest heard how the tot had been left alone in the seat before and her mother believed it was safe.
    [...]

The water was 16ins deep and the height of the bath seat, which was firmly fixed to the base of the tub, was 18ins.

After finding her daughter's lifeless body, Elwira fished her out of the water and put her on the lounge floor before calling her husband for help.

Nigel, 29, rushed home from his job at Forest Green Rovers Football Club with a colleague but could not resuscitate his daughter.

Mia was taken to Gloucester Royal Hospital by ambulance but attempts to resuscitate her failed and she was pronounced dead at 8.53pm.

Dr Phillip Cox, conducting the post-mortem examination, recorded that there was a 'frothy secretion in the lungs and airways' of the child.

He recorded that his findings were 'consistent with freshwater drowning'.

Why the hell did she call her husband from work to resucitate their daughter, and not the paramedics? That would have wasted very valuable time. It could have made a difference to the outcome.

    Very sad. RIP Mia.

16 inches of water? That young? I didn't even hand bath my baby in that much water and my 5 y/o doesn't get that much water now.

I'm trying to think. My daughter's last bath (showers these days) was probably in December. When I needed to go downstairs, I called her brother to stay outside the door and sing a song with her.

I can't even imagine a mother lacking the most common sense leaving a child that young or even filling the tub that much for that young a child.
Dear Mommy...I see you smile down there below...are those tears of joy you show? I'm glad you're happy, although you lied...I'd love to be right by your side...but by your choice, I view from above...tell my Grandparents I send my love...it's Beautiful here, is all I can say...your life will go on... without me in your way. Love Caylee XOXO......

I bet she thought, I'll only be a moment, only a moment. I know that is what a friend of mine said 6 yrs. ago. It was just before I got pregnant and she was a first time mother. Her baby girl was 7 mo. old and sitting pretty well but she had her in one of those set bath's which you should stop using once your baby actually sits upright. I used one only during the first 5 months and never unattended.
(This one is a bit sturdier then what they used to make back then).
She left her unattended for what she said, "just a moment", and I do think she did not leave her very long, but long enough apparently. Baby girl sat upright and leaned forward and the damn thing toppled on top of her strapped in. She was in essence forced down by the weight of the bath seat. This forever changed their lives as they were unable to have anymore children, and certainly never replace the one lost. A moment of distraction a life time of anguish.

Baby Mia, I do not believe your mother meant grave harm to you. I can only imagine what her grief and guilt must be like, the total consuming torment. I wish this never had happened as something like this has no do overs. I believe you will be missed and leaves an empty place in their hearts and lives.

Rest in peace baby Mia....so sorry sweet one.

Ok...this pisses me off to no end. Common sense to not leave your baby unattended.....I REALLY thought it was common sense not to fill the tub with 16 inches of water......um...maybe like 6....even still......she didnt hear her tip over .....OMG...I can't imagine.
I don't know about any of you.....but when my kids were "babies"...I put them in...washed them.....and got them out......when they were a little older...they sat and played......but now at 3 and 4...I give them showers.

Anyway MOM...you really needed to make that card right then at THAT moment......sorry its not considered multi tasking when someone dies.

Please go directly to jail and do not pass go.

While I do believe it's an honest mistake, and one this mother will live with for the rest of her life, I too find it hard to believe that she put her in 16 inches of water. I hope she is more careful with her new baby to say the least.. I also believe things like this should fall under some sort of manslaughter charges. While it may have been an accident, it still deserves a punishment IMO.. Just like i think people who leave their children in cars that suffocate should receive jail time.

R.I.P. Mia.. May God wrap you in His arms :(

I agree she deserves a charge of some sort, negligence for sure, tho I have no doubt her true sentence will weigh on her forever. I'm thinking the 16 inches was pure ignorance, maybe even stupidity. I agree with the car deaths completely.

There are actually bath chairs now to put your babies in while giving them a bath? F that, we didnt have bath chairs and we NEVER left our babies in the tub or bathroom alone or with another kid... we just sat and waited for a few minutes, babies sure enjoy bathing, and the fear of coming back and finding a drowned baby hammered into my thoughts for years prevented me from ever leaving them without me in the bathroom with them until they were about 5 or so and even then for maybe a minute...
Reality is merely an illusion, albeit a very persistent one...

Yeah. There are even these odd-shaped ducks you can place them in, but they're more like couch-rafts than chairs. I've never seen them in Canada, though...but a few weeks back at my mother's my brother placed his kid (my nephew) in one and it was so...odd. They're these inflatable animals the kids can sit in while they float in a bath. I just thought they were unusual - and you have to put a substantial amount of water in the tub, perhaps a foot, to have it work. Personally, I'd never purchase one or any sort of floatation device for my (non-existent) child while bathing. The idea of even falling off the thing and banging their head off the side of the tub would worry me.
