A Cahokia man is in police custody and accused of sexually molesting an 11-year-old girl who uses a wheelchair
Marvin J. Burries
, 28, is charged with three counts of predatory criminal sexual assault of a child in connection with the assault of the disabled child. The charges are class X felonies, punishable by 6 to 30 years in prison.
St. Clair County Dep. Gerald Brown received a call at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday about a sexual assault that had occurred at the Laura Lee Drive residence the night before, according to the police report.
As Brown was on his way to the residence he learned an ambulance had also been sent to the residence because the suspect in the assault was complaining of broken ribs
. Apparently, when the girl's family learned of the assault against her, they were extremely upset and restrained Burries while waiting for police to arrive
. Burries was a family friend who was staying at the home when the assault against the child happened.
While he was being interviewed at the St. Clair County Sheriff's Department by Investigator Mike Hundelt and Sgt. Dan Stockett, Burries attempted to jump through a second-story window from the interview room
, said Capt. Steve Johnson. Hundelt and Stockett were able to restrain Burries.
Investigators from the Illinois Department of Child and Family Services are interviewing other young family members where the assault occurred to determine if there are any additional victims.
